Description

Lonquimay Volcano is a beautiful volcano that is easily accessed from Pucón. It has an altitude of 2,865 metres and once you reach the top you’ll have spectacular views. This is one day trip you do not want to miss!

There have been three registered eruptions at Lonquimay, the most recent of which happened on the 25th of December 1988 creating the “Christmas crater” which at 800 metres long is one of the largest of the southern volcanoes of Chile. It’s also completely covered by a glacier.

Once we arrive at the base, it will take us five hours of hiking to reach the summit. We’ll cover all sorts of terrain from hard and crumbly rock, to ice and snow. The climb is not easy but it is pretty fun. Then, when we reach the top we’ll have time to take photos and admire the spectacular views which include different mountains and volcanoes such as Llaima, Villarrica, Lanín, Quetrupillan and Sierra Nevada. We’ll also be able to see lakes, rivers and monkey puzzle trees.

When we’re ready, we’ll start our descent which will take us around two to three hours. We’ll finish at our agency where we’ll share a drink, as we recap on the day.

This is an adventure-packed day of climbing so to tackle this climb, you’ll need to have a good level of fitness and lots of motivation and enthusiasm.

Sign up now and we’ll be waiting for you to begin our ascent of Lonquimay Volcano.
