Highlights

  • Skip refuge reservations and ski lifts, climb Mont Blanc (4,808 m) in one go!
  • Stay flexible and choose the best weather window for success.
  • Experience an intense, pure mountaineering challenge with light gear and expert guidance.

Description

This “one shot” ascent of Mont Blanc is designed for highly trained mountaineers ready for a fast, minimalist and challenging climb to the top of the Alps (4,808 m), all in a single day.

Unlike the traditional 2-day ascent with an overnight stay at the Goûter Hut, this version skips the refuge and cable cars. You’ll gain over 3,000 meters of elevation in one push, from Bionnassay (1,400 m) to the summit and back down to the valley, in 15 to 20 hours of continuous effort.

This approach has key advantages:

(1) No need to secure limited refuge bookings.

(2) Freedom to adapt to the best weather conditions.

(3) Lighter gear and faster movement increase your chances of success.

We start around 1:00 AM from the normal route trailhead above Bionnassay Village, ascending first to the Goûter Hut (3,800 m) for a short breakfast break around 7:00 AM. After a brief rest, we continue to the summit, often reaching it in the early afternoon. The descent follows the same route, with optional refreshment stops at the Goûter or Tête Rousse huts.

This route is ideal for endurance athletes, trail runners, cyclists, or experienced mountaineers, capable of sustaining long, intense efforts at altitude.

If you prefer to include acclimatization, I also offer a 2-day preparation option with a night at the Cosmiques Hut (3,600 m) and an ascent of Mont Blanc du Tacul (4,248 m) before the main climb.

Book your trip and let’s start planning this challenging climb to the mythical Mont Blanc!

FAQs

How long does the climb take?

Between 15 and 20 hours in total, including a 1-hour rest at the Goûter Hut.

How much elevation gain is there?

Approximately 3,000 meters from start to summit and back.

What happens if the weather is bad?

The climb may be postponed within the reserved period to take advantage of the best weather window. If conditions are poor everywhere, the trip can be canceled or replaced by another ascent such as Gran Paradiso, if the conditions are good there.

What about food and water?

Bring your own snacks and energy food. You can refuel at Tête Rousse or Goûter huts, but note there is no running water in the refuges.

What type of training should I do before?

Regular endurance training such as running, cycling, hiking, and long uphill efforts. Practice with crampons and in rocky terrain is strongly recommended.

Can two people join?

Yes, up to 2 participants per guide. If one person stops, the ascent ends for both for safety reasons.

Do you offer a preparation option before the one-day ascent?

Yes. You can add a Preparation + One-Shot option to help you acclimatize before the main climb.

Day 1: Ascent to the Cosmiques Hut (3,600 m) and climb of Mont Blanc du Tacul (4,248 m) for acclimatization. Overnight at the refuge.

Day 2: One-shot ascent of Mont Blanc following the main itinerary.

(Add €650 per day for the guide, plus lift tickets and refuge cost.)
