Description

Mt Amida (also known as ‘Amidadake’) is 2,805 m peak that belongs to the Yatsugatake mountains. Climbing on the north ridge of this peak is one of the classic routes in this area.

This 2-day trip is a great introduction to winter alpine climbing. For this trip, it’s very important that you have a previous mountaineering and rock climbing experience.

We’ll take the north ridge to the top of Mt Amida, which is the less demanding of all the ‘non-normal routes’ on this peak. However, keep in mind that this is a rock alpine climbing itinerary on the face of the peak.

Besides, there’s also snow ridge climbing so you’ll get the chance to explore different terrains and types of climbing.

The best time to join this trip is between the second week of December and the end of March. It’s also possible to go there in April and May, although we won’t have a winter condition by that time.

Are you ready for a great winter adventure in the Yatsugatake mountains? Send a request so we can start organizing this trip!

You can also find an exciting alpine climbing challenge in this 2-day ascent on Mt Akadake’s main ridge.

About the guide

guide profile img

To become a mountain guide had been my dream since I first started climbing mountains, and I have been a mountain guide since 2001 as well as an IFMGA guide since July 2014. I am very happy with the opportunity I have as a guide to share my experience, knowledge and skills with everyone that I go guiding with. I still remember the mix of fear, excitement and nervousness the first time I traversed the Daikiretto (a long knife edge ridge in the Northern Japanese Alps) during my first big climbing trip in the Northern Japanese Alps. I felt as if my heart was going to jump out of my mouth! But at the same time I felt so vividly alive and felt the kind of happiness that I had never felt before. It was a life changing experience and want to share this kind of feeling with my clients. My favourite mountain areas are vicinities of Mt Hotaka and Mt Tsurugi in the summer and Yatsugatake in the winter. I have guided backcountry skiing in Nagano areas (Hakuba, Nozawa Onsen) as well. I have also climbed extensively around the world, from Ultar Star in Pakistan to routes in Yosemite in the USA and several peaks in Chamonix in France.
