Description
On this hiking program, I offer you three different options to enjoy Sierra de Gredos. The starting point of the first two options is Alto del Durano, which lies on kilometer 6 of the road to La Plataforma. For the third option, we’ll start directly on La Plataforma.
The first alternative will take us on an easygoing hike to Puerto del Peón, from where we’ll get to see fantastic views of Los Galayos. Then, we’ll ascend to the Peñón del Mediodía peak at 2,219 meters and continue to Mojinete. From there, we’ll find another amazing viewpoint in the range and we’ll descend through Collado del Charco to return to the starting point.
For the second option, we’ll start on the same path but head in the direction of Hoya del Cura to reach Cerro del Camocho (1,826 meters) and continue to La Mira (2,343 meters), one of the highest peaks in the range. We’ll find old mountain refuges on the way and get to see fantastic views from the top. Then, we’ll take go down La Lanchosa and head back to the start.
As for the third option, we’ll go through an old trail used by farmers to Puerto de Candeleda and discover the ruins of El Refugio del Rey. Our ascent will continue to the Morezón peak at 2,389 meters above sea level, which will provide us with stunning views of Circo de Gredos. Finally, we’ll go down Laguna Grande and return.
Please, keep in mind that these hikes have a length of around 13-16 kilometers and an elevation gain of 700-900 meters. Therefore, it’s important to have a very good level of fitness for this program. As for the accommodation, we’ll spend the night after the hike in Hostal Almanzor, in the municipality of Navarredonda de Gredos.

It's possible to arrange the accommodation in Hostal Almanzor also for the night before the program. This will cost an extra of 53€ per participant, with breakfast and dinner included. Also, we can arrange the transportation to and from the start of the program for an additional cost. As for personal equipment, don't forget to bring waterproof mountain boots, 20 liters bag, waterproof mountain coat, polar fleece, thermal clothes, mountain trousers, two pairs of gloves, hat, cap, sunglasses and sun lotion.
