Mountaineering in the winter is a great way to really push yourself in the outdoors. The thrill of scaling cliffs and peaks in the midst of frigid winds, snow and ice is something that is difficult to duplicate. However, when it comes not only winter mountaineering, but mountaineering in general, it is crucial to know what you’re doing before you take on the world’s peaks. And on this half-day, beginner level course, we will teach you several important skills and techniques that you can use not only during this trip, but in future adventures. Finally, this course will take place in the beautiful Donner Summit near Lake Tahoe. Thus providing you with a hands-on learning experience.
Some of what you will learn during this trip includes how to properly use mountaineering equipment, including crampons and mountain axes. You will also learn about self-arresting and self-belaying. We will even instruct you about proper nutrition and clothing while winter mountaineering, and much more.
Surrounded by the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the area around the Donner Summit and Lake Tahoe is absolutely gorgeous. And in the winter, when the peaks and forests are blanketed by snow, the area is even more stunning.
