Description

Explore an easy and beautiful trail to the stunning Laguna Willcacocha, Peru. Located in the Cordillera Negra with breathtaking views of the Cordillera Blanca, this place is perfect for an enjoyable hike that can help you acclimatize to the altitude. Follow me!

For this hike, we’ll drive for 20 minutes from Huaraz to the starting point. From there, the path presents a gradual ascent up to the Willcacocha lake where outstanding views of the most iconic peaks of the Cordillera Blanca will await us. We’ll get to see the Huascaran, Hualcan, Vallunaraju, Ranrapalca, Churup, Huantzan and Shacsha peaks. Finally, the way back is through the same trail and we will drive back to Huaraz.

This is an easy hike that takes only half a day to complete. We’ll reach an altitude of 3,750 meters above sea level which makes it a great hike to acclimatize for higher or more challenging paths.

I was born in the Huaraz city, which is located between cordillera blanca & cordillera negra neighbor of huayhuash mountain range.

My passion for the mountain was born since I was a child, because I watched my father going to the mountain. When I was 13 years old I started going on treks with my father and clients, and as soon as I finished my high school I applied to the high school mountain center studies (CEAM) in 2001 and I graduated as an official mountain guide in 2005.

I have a wide guiding experience in trekking and climbing, organizing, trekking and climbing expeditions into cordillera Blanca & huayhuash in the Peruvian mountains.

I guided successfully in Mexico, Argentina where I climbed conquering the mount Aconcagua at (6959 m).

In Peru I have climbed the most beautiful mountain in the world mount "Alpamayo", and the Peruvian highest peak "mount Huascaran south peak". In 2005 I made a speed record climbing mounts "Alpamayo" & "Quitaraju" in 32 hours 16 minutes. I also opened some new routes to climbing in cordillera Blanca.

Aside from the AGMP / IFMGA certification, I also have the WFR certification.

Thank you explore-share for a wonderful via feratta experience. We have been wanting to learn for a long time but don't have the facilities in Scotland.
