Are you looking for a stunning winter adventure in Japan? Then join us for an off-piste skiing trip in Hakuba!
Hakuba is in the Nagano Prefecture, at the foot of the Japan Alps. With a large number of ski resorts connected by slopes or buses, it is internationally renowned as a premium winter sports destination.
On this off-piste skiing tour, we will use the lifts to reach amazing powder areas. We will mainly ski in the resorts of Hakuba Cortina, Norikura Onsen and Happo-one. I know the region like the back of my hand, so I can ensure exciting descents in some of the best spots in the area!
Keep in mind that this experience will be more enjoyable if you have some off-piste skiing experience. However, it is not necessary to have a high fitness level since we will not hike. Additionally, keep in mind that I will be there at all times to give you support and help you on the way.
So, if you want to explore the amazing ski opportunities of Japan, please contact us for this off-piste skiing adventure. You can ski with us for one or several days!
We also offer backcountry skiing for beginners in this same area. Check it out here.
Skiing time: 4 to 8 hours (Ending at 2 or 4PM)
We will pick you up at your accommodation at 8AM
I am a JMGA Mountaineering and Ski guide, as well as a JMGA Ski guide examiner, based in Hakuba in Japan. I am also certified with Japan Avalanche Network Level 2 and am also a Mountain Rescue for Northern Japanese Alps.
I have been pioneering backcountry skiing and snowboarding in Hakuba area in Nagano, Japan since 1992. Since then, I've skied numerous first descents and opened new routes in the area which includes Happo Ridge, Mount Karamatsu, Mount Kaerazu, and Mount Goryu. I've also pioneered the field of extreme ski mountaineering here, utilising double ice axes for climbing followed by ski descents. My climbing and backcountry experiences outside of Japan extends to backcountry skiing in Canada and Alaska, and spending 6 months in Switzerland as a trekking guide whilst climbing 11 of the 4,000m+ peaks within 1.5 months time span.
Backcountry skiing and ski touring is becoming increasingly popular at an exponential pace, and as a guide and a pioneer of backcountry skiing in the Hakuba region, I am also leading the efforts here to promote responsible and safe backcountry skiing, including raising awareness around avalanche risks.
What I value a lot when guiding is communication and trust between guides and clients. I look forward to getting to know you, and to show all of you from around the world what skiing and snowboarding we can do in Hakuba area, where I personally opened a lot of backcountry skiing routes.
I guide backcountry skiing, snowboarding, snow shoeing, free climbing and also run backcountry skills improvement courses.
