Ojos del Salado is located south of the Atacama Desert, in the more arid, flat and desert area of the Andes mountain range. Sharing territory with its neighboring country Argentina, Ojos del Salado is surrounded by mountains of more than 6000 meters.
Both in the Chilean city of Copiapó and in the Argentine province of Catamarca, Ojos del Salado stands out as the most prominent summit with an altitude of 6893 meters above sea level. In fact this mountain represents several records: it is the highest volcano in the world and the second highest summit in America. It is also the highest peak in the Chilean Andes and the second one in the Argentine Andes, after the Aconcagua (6959 m).
This time I want to invite you to conquer this summit of the Andes in northern Chile. It will be 12 days of pure mountaineering goals. We’ll cross its diverse landscapes and all type of lands like forests, glaciers, high plateaus and Andean steppes.
The ascent won’t be technically difficult. However a good fitness level will be mandatory. The perfect period to come here is during the south American summer, from December till March.
Contact me now if you want to make your reservation for next dates! It’ll be my pleasure to guide you to the top roof of the highest volcano in the world.
There are different activities to do in order to improve your acclimatization:
– Turn around laguna Verde (between 4h and 7h)
– Climb Laguna verde
– Climb Mulas Muertas

UIAGM/IFMGA Mountain Guide from Chile
Mountain guide and instructor from the Chilean Andinism Federation (FEACH) and certified Wilderness First Responder.
I’ve opened several climbing routes in Chile, and was one of the first and very few Chileans to summit Cerro Torre, Fitz Roy, Paine Grande and Torres del Paine.
I climbed almost all the technical mountain in Cajón del Maipo, in Central Chile, and did some of the most important routes in Yosemite, Indian Creek and Patagonia.
And regarding ski mountaineering, I skied down Mount Illimani and Huayna Potosí in Bolivia, and Cerro Castillo, Morado Norte and Sur in Chile.

Nicolas is an excellent guide, with incredible mountaineering knowledge and technique (which was particularly worthwhile during our expedition when we encountered harsh winter conditions). His english is also very good. In short, I recommend this mountain guide.

My trip with Nicolas was perfect. He catered to my climbing preference and the hot springs at the end of day was exactly what we needed. I would definitely do it again! Thanks Nico for my first experience in climbing in Chile!

The guide did not know the route. We spent a lot of time trying to find the route. The climbing itself was good.
