I invite you to a backcountry skiing trip starting in Sapporo, the capital of Hokkaido. Enjoy the best powder snow as well as the exciting city nightlife of this great destination. You can also relax in an onsen after an intense journey!

Only 2 hours away from Sapporo, there are a lot of accessible ski areas, like Niseko, Kiroro, Sapporo International Ski Resort and Kamui Links. All of them have great powder snow!

For this 1-day trip we’ll choose the best area according to the snow and weather conditions of the previous day.

Besides, you can choose between a whole journey of backcountry skiing (full hike up the mountains) or combine it with a lift access for some off piste skiing.

We can also arrange multi day trips to other destinations like Mount Asahidake (2,291 m), the highest mountain in Hokkaido. Fine and light powder snow makes this place a paradise for skiers. We can go up by gondola to Sugatami Station (1,600 m) and easily access the alpine terrains to ski.

After an overload of fun in the snow, we will have the chance to take a dip in a hot spring (onsen). Then, we can go out for the evening in Sapporo.

Equipment list:

Backcountry Ski gear (ski, splitboard and suitable ski boots)
Warm jacket (hooded is the best, prevent the cold, water-proof, high moisture permeability)
Inner wear (e.g. synthetic fleece: cotton parka or shirt is not suitable)
Under wear (wool or synthetic: easy to dry)
Ski goggle (sunglasses are not enough)
Gloves (thick and warm)
Beanie (warm and over ears)
Neck warmer (for protecting face from cold wind: Balaclava is the best)
Helmet (strongly recommended)

As for Kikuo-san, we both really liked her. She is very pleasant. A bit quiet spoken in a good way. She obviously knows the Akan region very well, as she lives inside the national park. She has very responsible and well organised. I would have her guide us again, when we go back to the area.

Just back from Hakuba –Japan and I’m so pleased to confirm we got such a great experience with Iwao who has provided a service above all expectations. Indeed assisting a family confronted to a new environment requires a certain level of patience and attention and all the family appreciated his sense of responsibilities and seriousness which allowed us to really enjoy this region by experiencing touring, hicking and of course skiing in immaculate powder. We had a wonderfull ski touring trip with Iwao in Gunma. Iwao brought us in various beautifull landscapes to found very good spring snow. He is a very professional guide that can adapt to clients will and conditions! We had great time sharing our experiences about nature and mountains. The second day, we had a long tour with beautiful views on gunma's region and finissing along a river in an amazing forest. It was great fun to wait the last train in the midel of nowhere at sunset to come back to our village! Iwao has perfectly organised the trip bringing me to nice local onsen, restaurant and hôtel! Wonderfull trip to recommand!
