Type of Trip
There are a number of incredible mountain ranges you can explore when you visit Bulgaria. There is the Balkans and the Rhodopes, as well as the Pirin mountains and the Rila mountains, which will be the focus of this trip. For an entire week, I will lead you through these two amazing collections of peaks. I will see to it that you get to see all of the highlights they offer. I will also see to it that you get to enjoy the beautiful, lush, natural landscape they both possess.
As a result of the length of time of this hiking adventure, the itinerary is very open ended. There is no strict schedule. Instead, we will discuss the trip prior to its beginning. We will go through everything from the meeting point, to which dates you want to enjoy it, to whether you want to stay in mountains huts or hotels, to what exactly you want to see. There is also the option of walking between 7-9 hours a day on tougher terrain, to a much easier 4-6 hour pace on easier terrain. I believe it is this kind of variety and freedom that makes this week long hike through the Rila mountains and Pirin mountains so exciting.
There are an abundance of highlights you will get to see on this 7 day hiking adventure including:
- Mount Vihren (2,914m)
- Mount Musala (2,925m)
- The seven Rila lakes
- Rila monastery
- Skakavitsa waterfall
- Rozhen monastery
Along with those highlights, there is also a number of beautiful blue lakes and gorgeous forests. Furthermore, you will have the chance to visit several small villages, where you can get a wonderful glimpse at local Bulgarian culture.
This week long hiking trek through the Rila mountains and the Pirin mountains is unbelievably exciting. And it would be my privilege to guide you through it. So if you want to explore this pair of majestic mountain ranges, just send me a request.
I also lead another 5 day, hut to hut Bulgarian hiking trip through the Balkans as well.

About the Guide
My name is Lyuben and I'm a Bulgarian Mountain Guide with a ski touring diploma, living in Bulgaria. I have finished the UIMLA training and passed the exams. My hometown Bansko is surrounded by the main mountain ranges of the country - Rila, Pirin and the Rhodope Mountains, where I usually work. It is also not far from Greece where I organize trips regularly. I guide Bulgarian and foreign groups since 2006. The activities I offer are hiking, mountain biking and snowshoeing.
Personally I like travelling and climbing mountains around the world, ski touring and off-piste skiing. Been to the mountains of Turkey, Macedonia, Kosovo, Greece and Romania. Mont Blanc and Dufourspitze in the Alps, ski tours in Tirol, trekking in Caucasus Mountains and in the mountains around Baikal Lake in Russia. Mount Kazbek in Georgia, Mount Kinabalu on Borneo Island, Mount Rinjani on Lombok Island, Indonesia, trekking in the Ladakh region of India.
