Description

San Francisco volcano is located in Catamarca's awe-inspiring Valley of the Seismiles, which groups the largest number of 6000-meter peaks in the Andes. It is a unique mountaineering objective that we will reach after several acclimatization climbs that will be just as spectacular.

The full tour takes place over the course of 8 days, which includes an arrival day, a rest day, and an extra day in case of bad weather. In total, we will climb 3 mountains: False Morocho (4500mts), Bertrand Volcano (5282mts), and San Francisco Volcano (6016mts). You can find a detailed day-by-day itinerary below.

A good fitness level is a must to join this tour, and some prior mountaineering experience is desirable. We also recommend medical clearance with ergometry to rule out heart disease before setting off on this expedition. However, all levels are welcome to join and the experience is truly unforgettable!

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival

Meeting in Fiambala, equipment check and trip briefing, safety talk for the expedition. Transfer to the Cortaderas hotel.

Day 2: Coquena Peak warmup

Trekking and ascent to Coquena peak 4035 Mts. We will spend around 6 to 7 hours trekking. Return to the camp where we will spend the night.

Day 3: False Morocho hill

Transfer to "La Gruta" (4000 masl), set up at the base camp. After lunch, we will trek and climb False Morocho hill (4500 masl) (or if the weather conditions are adverse, visit the thermal waters).

Day 4: Bertrand Volcano

Bertrand Volcano ascent at 5280 m. This beautiful volcano has a 2 km wide crater and aboriginal mortars on its summit.

Day 5: Rest Day

Rest day, Transfer to hut N°6 (4770mts) area. After settling in, we will prepare our backpacks to leave very early for the summit.

Day 6: San Franciso Volcano

On the long-awaited day, we will leave early in the morning by truck to begin the ascent to the summit of the San Francisco volcano, which boasts an altitude of 6016 m. Overnight at Hosteria de Corderas.

Day 7: Fiambalá

Return to Fiambalá, and visit the thermal waters at Fiambalá. Lunch in the Town. End of the expedition.

Day 8: Extra day to be used in case of need due to bad weather or rest at altitude
