Description

Combining the pleasures of skiing and sea, this destination offers skiing possibilities from mid-February to late April. The fjords of Tromsø are mainly located in the Lyngen Alps. They are almost endless and the choice of sailing and skiing routes are numerous, depending on snow and navigation conditions.

Our 8-day stay runs from Saturday to Saturday, these days being dedicated to travel. Southern Star, a magnificent polar yacht of 24 m, will be our lodge for the week.

This boat, born in the 1960s in the USA and originally scheduled for regattas, has now a navigation history around the world, mainly in the polar regions. Its owner and skipper, Olivier Pitras, will welcome you on board with his crew, cook and second.

Olivier has become my friend over the seasons. He sails from a young age, mostly in cold oceans and seas. In fact, he was the first Frenchman to go through the passage of NW sailing. He also traveled for one year around the globe to meet diverse populations in order to take stock of past and future consequences of global warming. You can discover the film “Climate Odyssée” recounting his journey on board.

So, on Saturday, we start with a short tour of the city of Tromsø and the Polar Museum, then you climb aboard the Southern Star at around 7PM to take your first meal on board and spend the first night.

Then, on Sunday morning, you will wake up the boat engine. Afterwards, upon arrival to the first fjords, you will land using the zodiac to discover the first ski touring and the beautiful descent that will result.

Over the days we will move from fjord to fjord depending on sailing and snow conditions. At the end of the week we will regain the port of Tromsø to spend the last night and enjoy the festive atmosphere of the city.

Throughout the week, daily climbing altitude changes will be of between 800 and 1400 m. Every week and every day is adaptable depending on the group and the shape of the day.

Does this unique ‘sea and mountain’ journey sound interesting? Then please contact me, I’d be happy to guide you in the breathtaking landscapes of the Lyngen Alps.
