We invite you to discover one of the most spectacular ski touring destinations in the world: the magical Uløya island, in the Lyngen Fjord, north of the Arctic Circle.  Whether you are a skier looking for a unique venue to ski on your own, or you are a guide looking to take your own clients to a remote and stunning location, this 1-week program in Uloya is perfect for you!

I recommend you to watch this amazing 1 1/2 min video which has been shot by a group of friends who came to ski here in April 2017.

Located in the famous Lyngen Fjord in northern Norway**,** the island of Uløya is a truly extraordinary place. Beautiful peaks and steep walls falling straight into the blue sea, and lots of powder snow, make for one of the most amazing ski touring destinations in the world.

For seven days you can enjoy incredible powder runs in Uløya and neighbouring islands, staying at our comfy, warm and fully equipped apartments at the Lyngen Outdoor Center.

Starting right from the doorstep of your lodge, you can enjoy great self-guided ski tours every day. For instance, if you choose to take a 15km tour to the summit of Blåtinden (1142m), you can ski straight down from the top of the mountain to your front door again, arriving just in time for a well deserved cold beer and a relaxing hot sauna.

Uløya is a ski touring paradise, with unique stunning landscapes. It is the only place on Earth where you can find 1000m-long slopes inclined at almost any angle, falling right into the dark blue waters of the fjords. This is the Arctic, where you can really feel like you are at the edge of the world!

Skiing conditions here are truly exceptional, making it the perfect destination for an unforgettable ski tour. We have perfect powder in Uloya almost all the time. In late spring, the snow cover is just perfect and creates a perfect surface to slide on. The snow that has melted during the day gets frozen again at night, creating a unique sliding layer several centimeters thick.

Uløya offers many great ski tours, including the famous Grand Traverse of Uløya, from Uløybukt to Havnes, a 20 km of ridge skiing, including 3 peaks. Although Skiclimb Touring is the Uløya specialty, a mix of ski-touring and mountain climbing. The best of these routes is a loop of Blåtinden, a 15km trip with an elevation of 1200m.

During your stay you will have a modern and safe boat (8.5 m or 7.2 m, 150 HP aluminium) at your disposal. So, if you fancy something different, you can take a trip to explore neighbouring islands, or a 40 minute trip across the Lyngen Fjord  enjoying a tour of the impressive Lyngen Alps.

If your thing is rock or ice climbing, virgin coulouirs, icefalls and rock walls await you here. If you’d like to enjoy a quiet day, you could also try sea fishing. Catching a 30 kg fish is not unusual here!

We offer stays for groups of 3 to 6 people in really comfortable and well equipped apartments. The island of Uloya and the Lyngen Fjord area offer a magical and scenic landscape, with plenty of small islands, inlets and rocky outcrops, allowing you to enjoy breathtaking views from almost everywhere.

If you are a mountain guide and if you wish to come with your clients in Uloya, you are more than welcome to put your base at the lodge. I’ll offer you a special deal. We can discuss about it.

You will find the best weather and conditions for skiing in Uloya from mid-March until end of April. End of February differs from year to year. Although days are considerably shorter, you can see the beautiful Northern Lights. You do need to be prepared for all kind of weather and conditions during your stay in Uloya.

So if you are ready to explore this unique ski touring paradise in Norway, just send us a request! Book your trip and come discover this fascinating destination in Norway!

In case you run short of supplies we deliver shopping at a small fee (500NOK) or you could just visit a store when you ski on the mainland. However, we are happy to deliver a very good full-board service as well, for NOK 4000 per week/per person.

BEST TIME AND SNOW CONDITIONS Weather in February is more uncertain than March in April. February is really hard to predict and quite variable: it could be icy and cold. or you could have lots of powder and sun. You could actually ski on hard neve and ice, but skiing on ice is more dangerous. Usually there is no powder in February. March and April could be too warm -with snowline at 300m- or it could be great. In contrast to February, in March and April you get a melted layer on top, which makes your skiing almost limitless.

The Lyngen Outdoor

Mountain Guide

The Lyngen Outdoor Center is located in Norway´s far north, in the eastern part of the island of Uløya.

Located just 500km beyond the Arctic circle and surrounded by stunning fjords (including the famous Lyngen fjord), Uløya is a dream setting to practice a wide range of activities (ski touring, climbing and hiking are an every day occurrence here).

The Lyngen Outdoor Center team is made up of IFMGA-certified guides and outdoor lovers only. We are skiers, climbers and anglers. Our expeditions have taken us all around the world, including Himalaya, the Tian Shan Range, Patagonia, Madagscar and Mali, to name a few. We created this place to share our knowledge and passion with you.

You won't have trouble finding us: the only route on this part of the island leads straight to us. You can take a ferry to get here or we can pick you up in our "water taxi".

Our very comfortable apartments are located just 50 meters away from the water line. They offer everything you'll need for a skiing or fishing trip with your friends, including a drying room. Our boats are some of the most modern in all of the Lyngen area and a large sized pier is located just 50m away from your accommodation.

Come explore the unbelievable Arctic. We'll be happy to welcome you!

What people are saying about The Lyngen Outdoor

Well where to begin. This trip exceeded all expectations. Please do note I live in the Alps so am familiar with beautiful mountains and snow (well these days less snow in the Alps...). The beauty of this place is unsurpassed unless you're already familiar with Arctic scenery. Majestic snowy mountains falling straight into crystal clear blue Fjords. How often can you put your touring skins on, on a beach where you've arrived by small boat and then climb 1200ms to skin down untouched powder fields unseen by many people, let alone ski tourers.....that's what you get on this trip. As for the Tour guides, we had Marcin, what a great guy and Pavel too, was with the other group. Both super professional, patient (particularly with me as I am a 6/10 Tourer) and super pleasant and beyond fit (like very happy and supportive Terminator machines :-)). thank you Marcin you are a star. Brilliant, both of them. And then there's the whole team, Artur who runs the Lyngen center (you'll enjoy the conversations with Artur on politics and history - always interesting over dinner and glass of wine), all the staff and particular shout out to Janusz, the chef, whose food is just perfect for a touring trip. Brilliant hearty breakfasts and super tasty four course dinners, varied every day! From traditional fresh cod to reindeer stew, then pasta to fajitas. Also a special shout out to Bogdan who will take you Halibut and cod fishing for the day which was great fun and we caught fresh fish (large cod) for the evening meal that day. So what else to say, if you want amazing mountains, tonnes of snow and fresh powder plus advanced and challenging technical touring run by such a friendly team led by Artur (so friendly that that they will feel like friends by the time you leave), then don't waste time looking elsewhere, just book The Lyngen Outdoor Center and you will absolutely not be disappointed. My thanks go to all of the people that made it a truly wonderful vacation....and we saw the Aurora Borealis too on the first night and the following night! This is a 5 star location and vacation.

Individual billing from explore share would help. LOC were great lots of flexibility fantastic team great sauna wonderful Location and my friends were lovely company too

Uloya is a trip of a lifetime. You find surreal beauty, natural elements at their chore where sea, mountains and skies confound, and shared passion from the hosts. Our guide Pavel was super professional and friendly. Artur, the main host loves to share his passion for nature, sport and good food. Explore Share was top class as they integrated our demand for an outdoor expedition very well and drafted out this incredible option very quickly. Easy access for follow up made us feel just good. Go for it.
