Description

We invite you to discover one of the most spectacular ski touring destinations in the world: the magical Uløya island, in the Lyngen Fjord, north of the Arctic Circle.  Whether you are a skier looking for a unique venue to ski on your own, or you are a guide looking to take your own clients to a remote and stunning location, this 1-week program in Uloya is perfect for you!

I recommend you to watch this amazing 1 1/2 min video which has been shot by a group of friends who came to ski here in April 2017.

Located in the famous Lyngen Fjord in northern Norway**,** the island of Uløya is a truly extraordinary place. Beautiful peaks and steep walls falling straight into the blue sea, and lots of powder snow, make for one of the most amazing ski touring destinations in the world.

For seven days you can enjoy incredible powder runs in Uløya and neighbouring islands, staying at our comfy, warm and fully equipped apartments at the Lyngen Outdoor Center.

Starting right from the doorstep of your lodge, you can enjoy great self-guided ski tours every day. For instance, if you choose to take a 15km tour to the summit of Blåtinden (1142m), you can ski straight down from the top of the mountain to your front door again, arriving just in time for a well deserved cold beer and a relaxing hot sauna.

Uløya is a ski touring paradise, with unique stunning landscapes. It is the only place on Earth where you can find 1000m-long slopes inclined at almost any angle, falling right into the dark blue waters of the fjords. This is the Arctic, where you can really feel like you are at the edge of the world!

Skiing conditions here are truly exceptional, making it the perfect destination for an unforgettable ski tour. We have perfect powder in Uloya almost all the time. In late spring, the snow cover is just perfect and creates a perfect surface to slide on. The snow that has melted during the day gets frozen again at night, creating a unique sliding layer several centimeters thick.

Uløya offers many great ski tours, including the famous Grand Traverse of Uløya, from Uløybukt to Havnes, a 20 km of ridge skiing, including 3 peaks. Although Skiclimb Touring is the Uløya specialty, a mix of ski-touring and mountain climbing. The best of these routes is a loop of Blåtinden, a 15km trip with an elevation of 1200m.

During your stay you will have a modern and safe boat (8.5 m or 7.2 m, 150 HP aluminium) at your disposal. So, if you fancy something different, you can take a trip to explore neighbouring islands, or a 40 minute trip across the Lyngen Fjord  enjoying a tour of the impressive Lyngen Alps.

If your thing is rock or ice climbing, virgin coulouirs, icefalls and rock walls await you here. If you’d like to enjoy a quiet day, you could also try sea fishing. Catching a 30 kg fish is not unusual here!

We offer stays for groups of 3 to 6 people in really comfortable and well equipped apartments. The island of Uloya and the Lyngen Fjord area offer a magical and scenic landscape, with plenty of small islands, inlets and rocky outcrops, allowing you to enjoy breathtaking views from almost everywhere.

If you are a mountain guide and if you wish to come with your clients in Uloya, you are more than welcome to put your base at the lodge. I’ll offer you a special deal. We can discuss about it.

You will find the best weather and conditions for skiing in Uloya from mid-March until end of April. End of February differs from year to year. Although days are considerably shorter, you can see the beautiful Northern Lights. You do need to be prepared for all kind of weather and conditions during your stay in Uloya.

So if you are ready to explore this unique ski touring paradise in Norway, just send us a request! Book your trip and come discover this fascinating destination in Norway!

BEST TIME AND SNOW CONDITIONS Weather in February is more uncertain than March in April. February is really hard to predict and quite variable: it could be icy and cold. or you could have lots of powder and sun. You could actually ski on hard neve and ice, but skiing on ice is more dangerous. Usually there is no powder in February. March and April could be too warm -with snowline at 300m- or it could be great. In contrast to February, in March and April you get a melted layer on top, which makes your skiing almost limitless.
