Summit Mama TUNGURAHUA (5.023 m). Together with Jaime, ASEGUIM guide, discover this iconic volcano in Baños de Agua Santa, one of the most famous mountains in Ecuador!

2 Days

Jan - May, Sep - Dec

* Reach the summit of the fantastic Tungurahua.

* Explore an active volcano in Ecuador.

* Discover the varied vegetation surrounding the moutnain.

Tungurahua can be climbed again, since August 2016!

This active volcano is a relatively easy climb of a mountain that is above 5.000 meters (16.479 ft).

The tour is technically not difficult, but you need some acclimatization and a good fitness level. Tungurahua is a great option for acclimatization, to get ready for higher peaks, such as Cayambe, Chimborazo or Cotopaxi.

A special thing about Tungurahua is, that the volcano is very active –attracting loads of local and foreign tourists to observe the spectacle when she is erupting directly from the city of Baños de Agua Santa. The mountain has been reopened for climbing in August 2016. Climbs are only possible when the activity level is yellow or lower.

The mountain is next to Baños, the door to the Amazonia, so you will enjoy very diverse vegetation on your way up to the summit. Let’s go for it!

We can arrange the trip for any day (depending on the activity level of the volcano). The best season goes from September to May. From June to August is the rainy season.

So contact me, and we’ll enjoy a fantastic ascent to an active volcano in Ecuador!

Another option could be this guided climb to Cotopaxi summit. Check it out!

As passionate mountaineer and with almost 20 years of guiding experience, I worked with clients from all over the world. Each tour is a unique experience and I will pleased to guide you to the marvellous summits of Ecuador and South America. My journeys have allowed me to guide and summit several mountains in Peru, like Alpamayo, Chopicalqui & Tocllaraju amongst others and to experience some mountain climbing in the Alps of Austria and Italy.

I’m based in Baños de Agua Santa, Ecuador’s famous piece of heaven, where we run together with my Austrian girlfriend a small tour operator and a consulting office.

Continuous improvement and keeping up with the State of the Art is our mission:in 2017, I completed the IFMGA certification and, recently, in 2018, I received the National guide certification from the ministry of Tourism.

President of Baños Trail Running Club, I run every week with my team. My achievement of 2018 : Finishing 1st of my category for the 100km Ruco Ultra Trail.

I’m looking forward to exploring our beautiful mountains together with you.

What people are saying about this trip

I climbed Tungurahua together with Jaime in November as a preparation for successful attempts to climb both Cotopaxi and Chimborazo. The trip was perfectly organized by Elisabeth and Jaime did a great job as a guide. I would absolutely recommend Andean Summit Adventure and I hope that I can do some further tours in Ecuador in the future with them!
