Description

Today I’d like to invite you to a magnificent and very interesting trekking adventure in Tara. On this tour we will visit Monjes de Pakana with its impressive rock formations, as well as Tara’s lagoon and saltworks.

Tara is situated at more than 4000 meters high in Los Flamencos National Reserve, Atacama. This place has a rich ecosystem that hosts numerous flora and fauna, being a good destination for walking and taking pictures.

In the Salar de Tara (Tara Saltworks) it is possible to find a large number of flamingos, vicuñas and foxes among many other native species. Its main geographical attractions are the Monjes de Pakana (Monks of Pakana). They’re giant vertical stones that, shaped by the erosion of the wind, have imitated the silhouette of monks.

It will be a super fun hike that won’t take more than 5 hours. Although it is not a technical trek, it will be necessary a prior hiking acclimatization at high altitude. Also keep in mind that we won’t be able to stop until we reach our final point. There will be a vehicle waiting for us there.

Finally I’d like to recommend you to bring at least 2 liters of water per person, comfortable clothes, trekking shoes, a small backpack, sunglasses, hut and a windbreaker jacket. The trip includes breakfast and lunch box.

So, if you’re planning to visit San Pedro de Atacama book this tour in one of the highlights in the area. I’ll be happy to guide you there!

About lead guide, Christian Fernandez:

I’m originally from Argentina, but live in Chile since 1998. Now I’m settled in the north of Chile, in San Pedro de Atacama, beautiful town in the heart of the Andean section of the dry Atacama dessert.

From there I organize many expeditions to beautiful peaks on a weekly basis. I’ve done more than 300 high altitude ascents, and more than 25 peaks over 6000 metres.

I speak English, Spanish and Portuguese.

It looks that company even do not know, that the guide yesterday canceled my trip. He said because of precast of electric storm. Sice that moment nobody from the company did not answer my phone. Weather around San Pedro was very nice. Of cause I do not know haw was on Pili. Anyway, I am horribly disappointed. Mirka

This is an easy assent! I ended up paying $200 for a two hour experience and an apple and piece of chocolate ( lunch 😳) If you plan on doing this hike which I highly recommend, don’t book it with these guys - total rip off!! You can go with a group for about $70 if you book locally from San Pedro! It’s a beautiful view from the summit! It’s not even hard to get there ( they drive you most of the way!) My guide was lovely, great chat, nice person but trust me $200 is a massive massive massive rip off for this ‘experience’

Christian guided me up Cerro toco and was an amazing guide. Very knowledgeable about the area, the mountains, you name it. If you consider going up a volcano, I can highly recommend him. Thanks Christian for an amazing experience.
