The trail to the Churup Lagoon is one of the classic hikes of the Cordillera Blanca, challenging but a great acclimatization route. Let Juventino, a local IFMGA mountain guide, lead this trekking adventure over 4450 meters of altitude!
The Churup Lagoon lies 20 km from Huaraz and it’s one of the most beautiful lagoon to visit in the Cordillera Blanca. I will lead you to this turquoise lake across a trail that will take us around 2 or 3 hours.
This is a very famous trek since it’s near Huaraz. However, it is a little hard experience. That’s why I suggest to start the adventure early in the morning. Of course, we will do some stops on the way so that you can rest and enjoy the pace of the place every time you need it. We can also set up a camp on the shore of the lagoon once we arrive if you want to spend a night under the starlight.
As for the complete itinerary, we will drive to the Llupa village, our trailhead. Then, we start walking on an old Inca trail towards the lake. The trail gets a bit narrow and steep. In fact, in a section we must use fixed ropes.
Approaching to the Churup Peak, which rises above the lake, we’ll face a big rocky mountain with cliffs and glaciers. If you have a good fitness condition, we can climb up to the Churup summit, doing a loop before returning to the trail. Back to Huaraz and overnight stay in a hotel of the city.
This Churup Lagoon trek is available most part of the year, from January to December. I can lead large groups from 2 guests up to 15 or more. I don’t have an open group to join yet so I will open a new one once you contact me. I can also organize private trips on any dates.
I will be here waiting for your contact, happy to guide you through the Cordillera Blanca landscapes!

My visit to Huaraz was one of the most beautiful trips of my life. Our days of adventure began with the visit of lagoons in the white mountain range; wilcacocha, churup, paron, lagoon 69 and we finish with the most beautiful Santa Cruz trek. Our trip was a complete success, during the stay in Huaraz we stayed at the ALPAMAYO GUEST HOUSE hotel, an excellent place in the center of Huaraz. I recommend Mr. Juventino to make his trip and his hotel the and if nice family People.
