Join me on this trekking tour around north Chile’s lagoons and the amazing Salar de Atacama, the largest salt flat in the country that is located 55 km south from San Pedro de Atacama!

During this trekking tour, we will visit the Chaxa Lagoon which is the best place in Chile to see flamingoes. Located in the center of the Salar de Atacama is part of the Los Flamencos National Reserve and one of the most beautiful places to appreciate flamingoes and a variety of other birds as well.

Other lagoons that are perfect to do some birdwatching will be the the Miscanti and Miñiques Lagoons. Located at 4.200 meters, in the middle of a magical natural landscape, these lagoons are surrounded by hills and volcanoes. Here, participants will be able to discover flamingoes as well as parinas.

We will also visit the towns of Socaire, located approximately at 3,600 meters, and Toconao. This charming town is known for its architecture of rock constructions with volcanic origin and also for its unique vegetation environment.

About lead guide, Christian Fernandez:

I’m originally from Argentina, but live in Chile since 1998. Now I’m settled in the north of Chile, in San Pedro de Atacama, beautiful town in the heart of the Andean section of the dry Atacama dessert.

From there I organize many expeditions to beautiful peaks on a weekly basis. I’ve done more than 300 high altitude ascents, and more than 25 peaks over 6000 metres.

I speak English, Spanish and Portuguese.

This is an easy assent! I ended up paying $200 for a two hour experience and an apple and piece of chocolate ( lunch 😳) If you plan on doing this hike which I highly recommend, don’t book it with these guys - total rip off!! You can go with a group for about $70 if you book locally from San Pedro! It’s a beautiful view from the summit! It’s not even hard to get there ( they drive you most of the way!) My guide was lovely, great chat, nice person but trust me $200 is a massive massive massive rip off for this ‘experience’

The trip was a great experience with a wonderful view! However, unfortunately the tour description does not fit with the actual tour. There was no breakfast with acclimatisation and the duration was shorter. Most important the tour was not guided by Christian, but by some of his employes which did not speak English so we didn't get much explanations except some fragments that we understood in Spanish. Therefore we were a litlle disappointed concerning the guide of this tour.
