I want to invite you to a 1-day trek to the **Achen-Ñiyeu Volcano**, in the beautiful **Patagonia**! Come and discover this amazing place in the **south of Argentina**.

First, we'll skirt Laguna Verde, 65 km from the city of **San Martin de los Andes**. Then, we'll enter a forest of colihues, cohiues and other native species. We'll walk along the trail until we see the **Achen-Ñiyeu volcano** in front of us.

The trek continues through volcanic sand and remains of slag, lava flow turned into rock. It was channeled through an ancient glacial valley, about 450 years ago.

The entire trek will take us about 8 hours. Once we're at the base of the volcano, we can climb to its summit. It will take us about 1.30 hours. Or we can either go to Cascada del Portezuelo, a beautiful waterfall.

Then, we'll return by the same path, but now with **the spectacular sight of the Lanin Volcano** in front of us. It's the most stunning mountain in North Patagonia.

1-day trek to Achen-Ñiyeu Volcano

The **Domuyo Volcano** is an imposing mountain from which the **Cordillera del Viento** is born. It is located in the north of the Patagonian province of Neuquén. With 4707 meters it is the highest mountain of The Patagonia and due to its geothermal activity, the name of this mountain means “it trembles and grumbles” in the Mapuche language.

**Domuyo Volcano** is also known as **“The Patagonia Roof”** and we recommend physical training and technical skills to climb it. From its summit we can admire the Southern Cordillera of Mendoza, the Northwest of Neuquen, Chile, the volcanoes Copahue, Antuco, Nevados de Chillán, Tromen and the mountains Campanario and Sierra Nevada. Its hills are full of solfataras as a result of spring waters and geiseres.

**DAY 1**

Meeting in Chos Malal, driving to Varvarco and night in a lodge (not included)

**DAY 2**

Ascent to the base camp at 3100 meters.

**DAY 3**

Acclimatization and rest day.

**DAY 4**

If we are ok and if weather conditions allow us we can try to get to the **Domuyo Volcano** summit. If not, we will spend an acclimatization and rest day.

**DAY 5**

Return to Chos Malal (final of our services)

**DAY 6**

Extra day in case of bad weather conditions.

Ascent to Domuyo Volcano, 4707m

Con sus 3776 mts de altura, el volcán Lanín es la cumbre más alta de la región y da nombre al Parque Nacional en el que se halla enclavado.  
El ascenso comienza en la seccional Río Turbio de Guardaparques, en la base del volcán, a unos 1100 mts de altura. La ruta conocida como “normal”, es la que nos llevará por la cara norte del cerro, recorriendo parte de la “espina de pescado”, una formación rocosa de residuos glaciarios; para luego desviar por el “camino de mulas” que abandonaremos al llegar al refugio que el Guardaparque nos haya designado.  
Nos encontramos cerca de los 2500 mts de altura, dependiendo del refugio, y allí disfrutaremos de un merecido descanso luego de 5 o 6 horas (aprox) de marcha. En esta primera etapa no es raro observar la presencia de una familia de cóndores que suele sobrevolar la zona.  
Nuestra segunda jornada comienza temprano, antes de la salida del sol, de modo de aprovechar la dureza de la nieve, la menor exposición a los rayos solares y las disposiciones de Parques Nacionales. Esta etapa, que puede durar entre 5 y 8 horas (aprox) nos llevará, si se dan todas las condiciones, hasta la cumbre del volcán, a 3776 mts de altura. Desde allí podremos apreciar en toda su magnificencia la belleza de la vista de los cordones montañosos vecinos y los distintos espejos de agua.  
El descenso transcurre por la misma ruta de ascenso y, previa parada en el refugio para descansar y recuperar energías, culminará en la base del volcán luego de una jornada larga y plena de satisfacciones que siempre será recordada.

Ascent to Lanin Volcano, 3776m

Would you like to hike up to the top of **Cerro Chapelco**, in the beautiful south of **Argentina**? Then, join me in this 1-day program in the **amazing Patagonia**!

**Cerro Chapelco** (1980 m) is a mountain within the Chapelco Range. It's located at the south of the popular ski station of the same name, in the surroundings of **San Martin de los Andes**. This is a small and charming village. Also, one of the favourite tourist destinations in the country.

The ascent of **Cerro Chapelco** will take us from 8 to 10 hours. We'll start hiking through forests of lenga. This is an autochthonous species spread in all the Patagonia. If you come in autumn, you'll see their beauty at their best. Their leaves turn to yellow, orange and red and then fall to the ground.

As we start hiking, we'll get to a pass that separates two valleys. Once there, we'll reach the foot of a snow couloir (in winter), by which we'll ascend. The terrain becomes easier after this point. Then, we'll have a great panoramic view, with all the splendor of mountains such as **Cerro Tronador, Volcano Lanin and Volcano Mocho**, among others.

Cerro Chapelco hiking ascent in Argentina

A 4-day trip starting in Arturo Port, at water’s edge of Lake Lolog, crossing the River of **Auquinco Valley**. We cross beautiful landscapes of native forests to end in a beauty spot next to Laguna Verde.

Keep reading the following itinerary of the way among **Aunquinco Valley**. You won’t want to miss this opportunity Patagonia is offering you.

**Day 1: Arturo Port – Auquinco (4 – 5 hs)**

The first day of this trek consists in skirting Lolog Lake by a dense forest. After 2 hours of hike we will arrive at Playa Bonita. If weather helps we will enjoy a rest time and a swim in this lake. Then, we will continue until we get to **Aunquinco** spot where we will spend the night in our base camp. You have to know during this walk we can find vary of birds such as the Pitio, woodpeckers and the Huet.

**Day 2: Auquinco – Corner of the pines (4 – 6 hs)**

Our second day will be easier and very different from the first one, because we will hike among steppe lands characterized by its thick grass. If it’s hot we can refresh our bodies in the cold but calm waters of **Auquinco River**. In the middle of those valleys we can find traces of deers, wild boars and if we are lucky, we can see one of them around.

**Day 3: Corner of the pines– Portezuelo waterfall (5 – 6 hs)**

Some minutes after leaving the **Corner of the Pines**, we can admire the beauty of the Araucarias. They are antique and typical trees of **The Lanin National Park** and they have been used as food resources by Mapuches.  
As we walk the mixed forest, we will start finding the first signs of an ancient volcanic activity. While we are leaving the forest, we will be entering into a black sandy landscape that slowly turns into a high desert. When we go through it, we will find the **Portezuelo Waterfall** and the volcano Achen Ñiyeu on whose side arises a beautiful slag heap.  
If weather conditions and National Parks allow us, we can spend the night at the waterfall foot.

**Day 4: Portezuelo Waterfall – Green Lake (2 – 3 hs)**

The day begins walking among the slag heap which is lava transformed into rock and channeled through an ancient glacial valley, approximately 450 years ago. This last section of the trail will take us to the **Laguna Verde** (Green Lake), where we can rest while waiting for the transfer.  
In case the weather conditions are not favorable or National Parks do not permit to overnight, we will sleep in Laguna Verde directly.

**Bariloche** and its waters give us unbelievable trails and landscapes to enjoy the best mountain activities. **Laguna Azul, Creton and Ilon** are some of them.

So that I am inviting you to this **4-day trekking expedition among the perfect and most imposing lakes of Bariloche**, in the Patagonia Argentina. For more details, here you have the full itinerary:

**DAY 1: FOREST HIKE**

The hike of the first day will take us about six hours. During the trail, we visit the **Rio Manso** which we will cross by a bridge, entering to a fantastic forest. It is known as “Bosque de Ñires” and its variety of animal, vegetation and rock species will make this trekking much more interesting. Finally, we reach to the beautiful **Laguna Azul**.

**DAY 2: ASCENT DAY**

Here we start the ascent. This trekking adventure will take us about 6 hours. We will hike up the slopes of the lake and once we advance some meters we will enjoy a magnificent viewpoint. When we reach to Laguna Creton a fresh water rain will welcome us.

**DAY 3: HILLS AND MORE HILLS**

We will continue hiking until we find the Cerro Punta Negra at 2.166 meters of height. After that, without going out of our way, we will find **Cerro Tronador and Cerro Capitan**, from whose edge we will enjoy a privileged sight of the famous **Nahuel Huapi Lake**. By the end of the day and after 5 or 6 hours of trekking we get to **Laguna Ilon**, the third lake of this adventure by the crystalline waters of **Bariloche**.

**DAY 4: LAST DAY**

In our fourth and last day, if weather conditions help, we can swim in **Laguna Ilon**, the warmest waters of the three lakes. After that, we will start the return by an irregular trail that turns into a flatter one after crossing the river. They are the final moments of this amazing trip around the best **Bariloche** waters.

Come enjoy a great 4-day hiking traverse into the old **Paimun Pass**, in Patagonia! I'll take you through beautiful native forests and amazing lakes. Besides, we'll have the fantastic view of the **Lanin** **Volcano** along the way.

The **Paimun Pass** trail was formerly used as an illegal passage between Argentina and Chile. Today it is an amazing hiking route in **Neuquen** province in Argentina.

On our first day, we’ll walk across a forest of radales and maitenes and pass a waterfall. Then, after some ascents and descents I'll take you to the beautiful **Paimun Lake** shore, close to our campsite.

Next day, I'll guide you towards a nires forest, typical species of the region. Then, we'll get to the **Paimun river**, a fantastic place for lunch. At the end of this day, we'll get to **Laguna Carilafquen**, where we'll spend the night. From the lagoon we'll be able to enjoy the view of the **Lanin Volcano.**

On our third day, we'll skirt the volcano, walking on volcanic soil until we get to **Cerro Barbecho**. From its summit, we'll get a stunning view of Lake Huechulafquen. And on our last day, we'll follow a wooded path, used by local people in summer for their animals. You can check the complete itinerary of this program below.

Today we’ll walk from 3 to 4 hours. First, I’ll take you through a very open forest of radales and maitenes. Then, after 45 minutes of walk we’ll find the beautiful Saltillo waterfall, surrounded by coihues. From there the forest becomes really dense. After a few ascents and descents we’ll get to the coast of the lake, close to our campsite.

Piedra Mala - Paimun

After breakfast, I’ll guide you towards a nires forest. We’ll get near the Paimun river, a beautiful place for lunch. After a while, we’ll continue our hike through a forest where a police department used to operate, with the aim to detect illegal immigration between Argentina and Chile. At the end of this day, we’ll get to the Laguna Carilafquen, where we’ll spend the night. It’s located to the west of the Lanin Volcano.

Paimun - Laguna Carilafquen

Today we’ll leave the lagoon behind, with the view of the silhouette of the Lanin Volcano. Once in the Hito Paimun, we’ll go on skirting the volcano, walking on volcanic soil until we get to Cerro Barbecho. From its summit, we’ll get a stunning view of Lake Huechulafquen. We’ll descend and in a few minutes we’ll be in the campsite.

On our last day, I’ll guide you through a wooded path, where local people take their animals in summer. We’ll get back then to Piedra Mala.
