Located 70 km west of Kilimanjaro, **Mount Meru** stands tall at a staggering height of 4,562 m and offers clear views of Kilimanjaro on a clear day.

The trail begins from **Momella Gate in Arusha National Park** and takes you to explore the amazing plant and animal life of the region. You’ll spend the first two days hiking on a beautiful path, passing by the Ngarenanyuki River, heading towards **Miriakamba Hut (2500m) and Saddle Hut (3500m). We’ll attempt the summit on the third day, starting just past midnight. Ascending gradually, we’ll cross **Rhino Point (3800m) and  Cobra Point (4350m)** to get to the top. We’ll pick you up from the Kilimanjaro International Airport, and transfer you to your hotel in Moshi/Arusha. You’ll spend the rest of the day relaxing by the pool.

Arrival in Tanzania

After breakfast, we’ll pick you up from Arusha and drive you to the Momella Gate in Arusha National Park. Here, after registration with the Tanzania National Park (TANAPA), you will begin your ascent. The first day of hiking is similar to a walking safari; you should expect to see giraffes, zebras, antelope, buffalo, and potentially elephants near the trail. Due to the high possibility of spotting wildlife, an armed ranger, hired through the National Park, is required to hike with our team for the duration of the hike. As you continue, you will pass by the Ngarenanyuki River and a beautiful waterfall at the base of Mt. Meru. Then, we’ll arrive at the Miriakamba Hut (2500m), and you’ll enjoy a beautiful sunset and dinner here.

Duration: 5-7 hours hiking

Moshi – Miriakamba Hut (2500m)

After breakfast, you will start ascending the steep trail along the ridge of the saddle. You might also spot various wild animals along the way! The trail has amazing views of Mt. Meru Crater and the Ash Tray. When you arrive at camp, you’ll have the option of hiking Little Mt. Meru (3820m) with your guide for more acclimatization. After an early dinner, you’ll receive ample rest before your midnight summit attempt. Get to sleep by 1900!

Duration: 3-5 hours of hiking

Miriakamba Hut (2500m) – Saddle Hut (3500m)

You’ll wake up at 00:30 for tea and biscuits and thereafter begin your summit attempt at 1:30 am. The trail starts off on a steep grade to Rhino Point (3800m) and Cobra Point (4350m). The last hour of the hike will be a scamble on a rocky ridge between the crater and inner cliffs of Meru. You will reach the summit of Meru (4565m) at sunrise with spectacular views of Mt. Meru Ash Tray and Mt. Kilimanjaro. Enjoy your views then descend to Momella Gate and return to Moshi.

### **Join us on this incredible trek to get to the top of the highest mountain in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895m) via the scenic Machame route.**

Also known as the **Whiskey route**, it is one of our personal favorites given its **high summit success rate** and the **amazing topography** through which it takes you.

Also, the route is **ideal for acclimatization** as it makes the trekkers “trek high & sleep low” so as to make their bodies acclimatize to high altitude.

We’ll begin the journey by picking you up from the airport and drive you to your hotel in **Moshi** to relax and unwind. The next day, another drive will take you to Machame gate to begin the trek.

The Machame route begins in the southwest side of Kilimanjaro and leads towards the north, taking us through the beautiful **Shira plateau**. All along, the route offers **mesmerizing views** and eventually joins the Shira and Lemosho routes just after crossing the Shira cave camp.

Though the trek can be completed in a minimum of 6 days, it is recommended to take an extra day to relax and acclimatize properly before attempting the summit.

Ascending gradually on snow and scree, we’ll get to **Uhuru Peak**, and no wonder you’ll feel a **sense of awe standing on the roof of Africa.** After taking a few pictures, we’ll descend via the **Mewka route,** ending this one of a kind journey.

Upon arrival, we’ll pick you up from the airport and transfer you to your beautiful Park View Inn Hotel in Moshi.

You’ll spend the day relaxing by the pool.

After breakfast, we’ll drive you to the Machame Village. From here, depending on the road conditions, we will either continue our drive towards the Machame gate or go for a muddy 3 km walk. After registering at the gate, we’ll begin ascending and enter the rain forest almost immediately. There is a strong possibility of rain in the forest, which will transform the trail into a very soggy, muddy and slippery experience. You will have a welcome lunch stop about half way and will reach the Machame camping area in the late afternoon.

Machame Gate (1490m) – Machame Camp (2980m)

After breakfast you’ll trek through the moorland and continue up a rocky ridge onto the Shira plateau. By now you will be able to see in an easterly direction, the Western Breach with its stunning glaciers. You are now due west of Kibo and after a short hike, you will reach the Shira campsite at 3 840m. The temperature will drop well below freezing point so be prepared.

Distance: Approximately 9 kilometers

Habitat: Moorland

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Machame camp (2980m) – Shira camp (3840m)

The route now turns east onto a semi-desert and rocky landscape surrounding Lava Tower, where you reach an altitude of 4630m after about a 5 hours walk. After lunch here,we’ll descend for 2 hours by almost 680m to the Barranco camping area. The spot offers amazing views of the Western Breach and Breach Wall.

Hiking time: 7 hours

Distance: Approximately 15 kilometers

Habitat: Semi-desert

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Shira (at 3840m) to Lava Tower (at 4630m) to Barranco camp (at 3950m)

After spending a night at the Great Barranco Wall (a very imposing sight at first), you’ll head towards the Barranco camp (3950m). The route offers spectacular views of the beautiful Kilimanjaro. We’ll have an early dinner and take rest to prepare ourselves for the summit hike.

Hiking time: 7 hours

Distance: Approximately 13 kilometers

Habitat: Alpine Desert

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Barranco camp (3950m)- Barafu camp (4550m)

Starting just around midnight, you will head in a north-westerly direction and ascend through heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. This could be the most challenging part of the route. At Stella Point (5685m) you will stop for a short rest and will be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise you are ever likely to see. Next, we’ll encounter snow all the way on our 2-hour ascent to Uhuru Peak. After relishing our time here, we’ll descend to Mweka.

Hiking time: 8h to reach Uhuru Peak, 7 – 8h to descend to Mweka

Distance: Approximately 7 km ascent – 23 km descent

Habitat: Stone scree and ice-capped summit

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

(Summit attempt) Barafu camp (4550m) – Uhuru Peak (5895m) – Mweka (3100m)

After a big celebration, you will descend for three hours to get back to Mweka Gate. The National Park requires all hikers to sign their names to receive certificates of completion. Hikers who reached Stella Point (5685m) receive green certificates and hikers who reached Uhuru Peak (5895m) receive gold certificates. Thereafter, you’ll descend to the Mweka village for 1 hour (3 kilometers) and be driven back to Moshi.

Join us on this unique trekking adventure in Tanzania and climb to the top of **Mount Kilimanjaro(5895m)** in 7 days, via the scenic Lemosho route, enjoying spectacular panoramic views and different landscapes along the way.

The Lemosho route is one of our preferred ways to the top, not only because of its beautiful scenery, but it is also a **less crowded route** compared to others. Additionally, the Lemosho route offers a **high summit success rate.** Bear in mind you need a **very good fitness level** to join this trek!

We will pick you up from the Kilimanjaro International Airport and take you to your hotel in Moshi. The next day, our trek starts from the west, following a long drive from Moshi to the Londorossi Gate, where we will complete entry formalities.

We will then drive to the Lemosho trailhead, where we will have lunch and start trekking along a forest to our first campsite. We will be trekking during the first two days through an exuberant rainforest to the Shira Plateau.

This 7-day program is a great option to reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. It offers the possibility of **gradually acclimatizing** to the altitude before attempting the summit. The Lemosho route connects with the Machame route when we reach Shira Camp 2.

On the sixth day, very early in the morning, **at 02:00 am, we will start climbing to the summit** of mythical Mount Kilimanjaro, a really demanding day! It will be a **7-8 hours ascent** and a **4-6 hours descent.**

Along the way to the top, we will be rewarded with a magnificent sunrise view when we stop for a short break at Stella Point. We will continue until we reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and in Africa!

From the summit, we will descend straight down via the same route, along the southern circuit, and descend to the Mweka Gate, and stop at Barafu for lunch. You can check the day-by-day itinerary below.

Our Kilimanjaro adventure starts the moment you land at the Kilimanjaro International Airport. You will be met by our staff at the airport and transferred to Moshi, enjoying the peaceful surroundings of our comfortable pre and post trek accommodation at Parkview inn Hotel ([http://www.pvim.com)](http://www.pvim.com/) from where there are great views of the mountain. We depart from Moshi to the Londorossi Gate, which will take us about 4 hours, where you will complete entry formalities. Then we drive to the Lemosho trailhead (another hour to reach the trailhead). Upon arrival at the trailhead, we have lunch, then we start hiking through undisturbed forest which winds to the first camp site.

Londorossi Gate to Forest Camp

We continue on the trail leading out of the forest and into a savannah of tall grasses, heather, and volcanic rock draped with lichen beards. As we ascend through the lush rolling hills and cross several streams, we reach the Shira Ridge before dropping gently down to Shira Camp 1. The view of Kibo from across the plateau is amazing.

**Hiking time: 5-6 hours** / Distance: 8 kilometers / Habitat: Moorlands / Elevation (ft): 9,500ft to 11,500ft / Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Forest Camp - Shira Camp 1

We explore the Shira plateau for a full day. It is a gentle walk east toward Kibo’s glaciered peak, across the plateau which leads to Shira Camp 2 on moorland meadows by a stream. Then we continue to Moir Hut, a little used site on the base of Lent Hills. A variety of walks are available on Lent Hills making this an excellent acclimatization opportunity. Shira is one of the highest plateaus on earth.

**Hiking time: 5-7 hours** / Distance:14 km /Habitat: Moorlands / Elevation: 11,500ft to 13,800 ft / Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Shira Camp1 - Shira Camp 2 - Moir Hut

From the Shira Plateau, we continue to the east up a ridge, passing the junction towards the peak of Kibo. As we continue, our direction changes to the South East towards the Lava Tower, called the “Shark’s Tooth.” Shortly after the tower, we come to the second junction which brings us up to the Arrow Glacier at an altitude of 16,000ft. We now continue down to the Barranco Hut at an altitude of 13,000ft. Here we rest, enjoy dinner, and overnight. Although you end the day at the same elevation as when you started, this day is very important for acclimatization and will help your body prepare for summit day.

**Hiking time: 4-6 hours** / Distance: 7 kilometers /  Habitat: Semi Desert / Elevation (ft): 13,800ft to 13,000ft /Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Moir Hut - Lava Tower - Barranco Camp

After breakfast, we leave Barranco and continue on a steep ridge passing the Barranco Wall, to the Karanga Valley campsite. Then, we leave Karanga and hit the junction which connects with the Mweka Trail. We continue up to the Barafu Hut. At this point, you have completed the South Circuit, which offers views of the summit from many different angles. Here we make camp, rest, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the summit day. The two peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo are to be seen from this position.

**Hiking time: 8-10 hours** / Distance: 9 kilometers / Habitat: Alpine forest / Elevation (ft): 13,000ft to 15,000ft / Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Barranco Camp - Karanga Camp - Barafu Camp

Very early in the morning (midnight to 2am), we continue our way to the summit between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers. You head in a northwesterly direction and ascend through heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. This is the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek.

At Stella Point (18,600 ft), you will stop for a short rest and will be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise you are ever likely to see (weather permitting). From Stella Point, you may encounter snow all they way on your 1-hour ascent to the summit. At Uhuru Peak, you have reached the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the continent of Africa. Faster hikers will see the sunrise from the summit.

From the summit, we now make our descent continuing straight down to the Mweka Hut camp site, stopping at Barafu for lunch. You will want gaiters and trekking poles for the loose gravel going down. Mweka Camp is situated in the upper forest and mist or rain can be expected in the late afternoon. Later in the evening, we enjoy our last dinner on the mountain and a well-earned sleep.

Hiking time: **7-8 hours ascent / 4-6 hours descent**  //  Distance: 5 km ascent / 12 km descent // Habitat: Arctic / Elevation (ft): 15,300ft to 19,345ft (and down to 10,000ft) / Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Barafu Camp - Mt. Kilimanjaro summit - Mweka Hut

After breakfast, we continue the descent down to the Mweka Park Gate to receive your summit certificates. At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy. Gaiters and trekking poles will help. Shorts and t-shirts will probably be plenty to wear (keep rain gear and warmer clothing handy).

From the gate, you continue another hour to Mweka Village. A vehicle will meet you at Mweka village to drive you back to hotel in Moshi.

**Hiking time: 3-4 hours** / Distance: 10 kilometers / Habitat: Rain forest / Elevation (ft): 10,000ft to 5,400ft /Meals: Breakfast

### **It is not every day you get to climb a peak as iconic as Mount Kilimanjaro(5,895m), the highest peak of Africa. So, come join us on this unforgettable journey where we’ll take you to the top via the beautiful Lemosho Route to have an incredible time on this 6-day trek.**

Often preferred over other routes because of its **low traffic, breathtaking scenic beauty, and a high summit success rate**, the Lemosho route is definitely a wise choice.

The route begins from the west, after taking a long drive from **Moshi to Londorossi Gate**. From here, after registration, we’ll begin the trek. The first two days will be spent traversing a green rainforest to get to Shira Plateau.

Later, the trail joins the Machame route at Shira 2 Camp to get to the peak, offering **stunning views** all along. The top offers a **humbling experience and exceptional views** of the neighboring peaks.

We’ll descend via the **Mweka route,** ending the incredible trip at Mweka Gate.

Though this journey can be completed in 6- days, we recommend extending the trip by a day or two for better acclimatization and summit success. Rest if you have a fit body and a fair dose of enthusiasm, you should be just fine!

After breakfast, your guide will brief you. We will drive two hours from Arusha (1400m) to Londorossi Park Gate (2100m). In the village near Londorossi Gate, you will receive a packed lunch and can buy mineral water for the hike. Then, the final 45 minutes of the drive leading up to the gate will be on a bumpy forest track requiring 4WD vehicles. After registration, you’ll begin a 3-hour hike through the rain forest. Be on the lookout for Colobus monkeys! Along the way, you will stop for an afternoon lunch break and arrive at Mti Mkubwa (“Big Tree”) Campsite (2750m) by evening. At nighttime, mountain temperatures may drop to freezing so be prepared!

Habitat: Mountain forest

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Moshi – Londorossi Gate (2100m) – Mti Mkubwa camp (2750m)

After breakfast, you will begin ascending into the heather moorland zone. Crossing many streams you’ll head towards a plateau that leads to Shira 2 Camp (3840m). At the campsite, you will be next to a stream and have a spectacular view of the Western Breach and its glaciers in the East.

Hiking time: 6.5 hours

Habitat: Moorland

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Mti Mkubwa Camp (2750m) – Shira 2 Camp (3840m)

Following an early morning breakfast, you will head from moorland to semi-desert and rocky landscape. After 5 hours of walking east, you will come face to face with the Lava Tower (4630m). Packed lunches will be served here and hikers also have an option of climbing the massive Lava Tower if weather permits. At this point of the hike, it is normal for hikers to start feeling the effects from the altitude including headaches and shortness of breath.

Next, we’ll move towards the Barranco Campsite (3950m). The descent takes around 2 hours. It is located in a valley below the Breach and Great Barranco Wall (“Breakfast Wall”). Drinking and washing water and dinner will be served as hikers view the sun setting.

Habitat: Semi Desert

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Shira (3840m) – Lava Tower (4630m) – Barranco Camp (3950m)

After early breakfast, it is now time to conquer the Great Barranco Wall! From the top of the Wall, you will have a view of Heim Glacier. The trail then winds up and down in the Karanga Valley and intersects with the Mweka Route, which is the trail used to descend on the final two days. As you continue hiking for an hour, you will reach Barafu Hut. This is the last water stop for the porters because there is no accessible water at Barafu Camp (4550m). Tents will be exposed to wind and rocks so it is important for hikers to familiarize themselves with the campsite before dark. An early dinner will be served so hikers can rest before attempting the summit the same night. Your guide will brief you in detail on how to prepare for summit night. Get to sleep by 19:00!

Distance: Approximately 13 kilometers

Habitat: Alpine Desert

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Barranco Camp (3950m) – Barafu Camp (4550m)

Your guide will wake you around 23:30 for tea and biscuits. You will then begin your summit attempt. The route heads northwest and you will ascend over stone scree. This is the most mentally and physically challenging part of the climb. In about 6 hours, you will reach Stella Point (5685m), located on the crater rim. After enjoying a magnificent sunrise, you will continue ascending for about 2 hours on a snow-covered trail to Uhuru Peak (5895m). Reaching the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro is a lifetime accomplishment! You will be able to spend a short time on the summit taking photographs and drinking tea before descending to Barafu. The hike down to Barafu Camp takes about 3 hours.

After lunch, you’ll continue towards Mweka Hut (3100m).  Mweka Camp (3100m) is located in the upper rain forest, so fog and rain should be expected. here, you’ll have a warm dinner and take rest.

Hiking time: 8 hours to reach Uhuru Peak, 7-8 hours to descend to Mweka

Following a well-deserved breakfast, your staff will have a big celebration of dancing and singing. Thereafter, you will descend for three hours to get to Mweka Gate. The National Park requires all hikers to sign their names to receive certificates of completion. Hikers who reached Stella Point (5685m) receive green certificates and hikers who reached Uhuru Peak (5895m) receive gold certificates. Next, you’ll descend to the Mweka village for 1 hour (3 kilometers). You will be served a hot lunch then we will drive you back to Moshi at Hotel for long overdue showers and more celebrations.

### **We’ll achieve the amazing feat of climbing the iconic peak of Kilimanjaro (5,895m) in just 5 days, so come, join us! Furthermore, we’ll get to the top via the classic Marangu Route, so there is no reason to miss this trip.**

Also, known as the **‘Coca Cola’ route**, the **Marangu Route** is a favorite among hikers. But, just because it takes you to the peak in a short duration of 5 days, by no means it is an easy route.

The route offers an **exciting and challenging climb** and also has the added perk of making the hikers stay in **comfortable mountain huts** instead of tents. Also, it is best to **arrive one day befor**e the start date to get proper rest and gear up for the amazing adventure that lies ahead.

The trek is suitable for both **beginners and seasoned hikers**. For those of you who do not have previous trekking experience, it is recommended to extend the trip by a day at Horombo Huts for better acclimatization. We’ll book the huts well in advance so as to avoid any inconveniences later.

The journey will begin by picking you up from the airport and transferring you to your hotel in Moshi. The next day we’ll head towards the village of **Marangu** to begin our trek. The route takes us all the way to **Kibo**. You’ll be traversing a range of landscapes, from **lush rain forest to moorland and alpine desert until you reach the peak**.

All along you’ll be accompanied by **mesmerizing views** of towering peaks and it will be no less than an **accomplishment to stand on the roof of Africa.**

After, relishing our time on the top, we’ll get down via the same route, ending this **incredible trip.**

Upon arrival, we’ll pick you up from the airport and transfer you to your beautiful Park View Inn Hotel in Moshi.

You’ll spend the day relaxing by the pool and we’ll brief you about the trek.

After breakfast and briefing, we’ll drive to the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate (about 1 hour), register and commence the climb. Walking through the rainforest, we’ll get to the Mandara encampment. You’ll see towering Eucalyptus trees, birdlife, and Colobus monkeys on the way. A side trip to Maundi Crater will be a good way to see the surroundings including Northern Tanzania and Kenya.

Drive to Kilimanjaro National Park Marangu Gate, Hike to Mandara Hut

You’ll leave the glades of the rain-forest and follow an ascending path on the open moorlands to the Horombo encampment. Views of Mawenzi and the summit of Kibo are amazing. Look for giant lobelias and grounsels on the way. You may begin to feel the effects of the altitude from here.

Hike Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

Ascending, we’ll now pass the last watering point, walking onto the saddle of Kilimanjaro between the peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi. Vegetation begins with upper heathland but then disappears into “moonscape”. After dinner, we’ll take rest and prepare for the summit climb.

Hiking time: 5-6 hours

Distance: 9km/5.5mi

Habitat: Desert

Hike Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

Early in the morning (midnight to 2 am), we’ll commence the climb to the summit on steep and heavy scree or snow, up to Gilman’s point located on the crater rim. Continuing, we’ll now ascend Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. You’ll have unbelievable views at every turn on the way. After clicking a picture or two, we’ll descend, stopping for lunch and a rest at Kibo before continuing on to the Horombo encampment.

We’ll begin in dark in the light of our headlamps or flashlights. It will be very cold until you start descending, so you will need all of your warm layers. This by far will be the most difficult part of the trek. But your optimistic attitude will get you there!

Hike Kibo Hut to Summit, and down to Horombo Hut

After breakfast, a steady descent takes us down through moorland to the Mandara Hut. Continue descending through the lush forest path to the National Park gate at Marangu. At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy. Gaiters and trekking poles will help. Shorts and t-shirts will probably be plenty to wear (keep rain gear and warmer clothing handy).

A vehicle will be waiting for you at Marangu gate to drive you back to your hotel in Moshi (about 1 hour).

### **Join us to climb the amazing peak of Mount Meru, the fifth highest peak in Africa on this 4-day trip in Tanzania.**

Located 70 km west of Kilimanjaro, **Mount Meru** stands tall at an imposing height of 4,562 m and offers spectacular views of Kilimanjaro on a clear day.

The trail begins from **Momella Gate in Arusha National Park** and takes you to explore the amazing plant and animal life of the region. You’ll spend the first two days hiking on a beautiful path, passing by the Ngarenanyuki River, heading towards **Miriakamba Hut (2500m) and Saddle Hut (3500m). Stunning views** of the peak of Meru will accompany you all along.

We’ll attempt the summit on the third day, starting just past midnight. Ascending gradually, we’ll cross **Rhino Point (3800m) and  Cobra Point (4350m)** to get to the top. And what a feeling it would be! The summit offers unobstructed views of **Kilimanjaro and  Mount Meru Ash Tray**. After relishing our time here, we’ll get back to Miriakamba Hut and stay overnight. The last day will take us from Miriakamba Hut to Arusha, ending this remarkable trip.

Regarding difficulty, keep in mind that it is a **medium grade trek** suitable for both seasoned trekkers and newbies. Also, the trip is available all year round, all you’ll need is a fit body to come along.

Starting juts past midnight at 00:30, we’ll have tea and biscuits and then begin the summit attempt at 1:30 am. The trail starts off on a steep grade to Rhino Point (3800m) to Cobra Point (4350m). The last hour of the hike you will scamble on a rocky ridge between the crater and inner cliffs of Meru. You will reach the summit of Meru (4565m) at sunrise with spectacular views of Mt. Meru Ash Tray and Mt. Kilimanjaro. After enjoying the views, we’ll descend to Saddle Hut for a short break. You will then continue descending to Miriakamba Hut (2500m) for dinner and overnight.
