We will depart Barcelona at 8:45am and travel about two hours to Falset. From there, we will have a nice 8.6 km walk through poplars, oaks, and hazelnut groves to a private tour of a Gratallops winery. We will have a packed lunch on the way.

After the tour and tasting, we will continue along the path for an additional 7 km of walking to reach our first accommodations.

Priorat Vineyards

After our breakfast we will take on an ambitious hike with a 1,100m rise in elevation over 14km. This includes some scrambles over Grau de la Vilella Alta and Graus de l´Enderrocada, as well as a beautiful countryside of olive groves and time-worn Stone walls.

We will reach the hotel after several hours out on our trek, and prepare for the amazing hike the next day!

La Vilella Alta

A hilly journey of 16km awaits us today, and we will climb 840m in altitude. We will reach the highest point of the mountain range and take in unbelievable views of the Catalan wine country.

There is an optional wine tour and tasting at Celler Cooperatiu de Cornudella del Montsant, a well-known winery with architectural significance – it was built by Cesar Martinell, a protege of Gaudi.

We will bus to Falset by 6:30pm, and take the train back to Barcelona at 7:33pm – a two-hour trip.

See some of the most sought-after peaks in the Catalan Pyrenees on this unbelievable 4-day trek! Spend four days climbing and scrambling through Catalonia and returning to mountain inns for bask in the scenery of this incredible region.

The Cadi Moixero Natural Park is in the High Begueda region of the Pyrenees. There are many glorious summits throughout its vast expanse of 30 kilometers, and it includes the Serra del Cadi and Serra Moixero mountain ranges.

The views of the Pyrenees are immaculate, and they will include panoramas of France, Catalonia, and Spain on either side of the mountain range. This breathtaking skyline will follow us to our mountain inns, which rise to 1,425m and 1,256m, among the beautiful natural landscape.

You will enjoy sustained hikes and scrambles to Gallina Pelada (2,317m) Penyes Altes de Moixero (2,279m), and even reach the summit of Comabona at 2,554 meters. Our ultimate day will be scaling Pedraforca (2,504m), one of the most famous mountains of Catalonia.

I will pick you up at our arranged meeting point in Barcelona / Baga. After arriving at our first base camp, we will head to the start of our Comabona climb. It is a relatively easy ascent with a wonderful walk. You can appreciate the rock formations on your way to 2,554 meters.

After the hike, we will settle in to the base camp and enjoy dinner.

Comabona

We will have breakfast at the country inn before starting our journey through the Ensija mountain range. Our peaks will include the Serrat Voltor (2,279m), Creu de Ferro (2,294m), and Gallina Pelada (2,379m), the highest summit of the Ensija range.

After the hike, we will have the option of visiting the Picasso Museum in Gosol (at additional cost). Picasso painted more than 300 pieces over the course of 81 days in Gosol, and stands as an important era in his evolution as an artist.

We will return to the inn and indulge in a little cultural history before dinner.

Serra D´Ensija

We will take off after breakfast to explore the incredible alpine landscapes of Penyes Altes Moixero! It is considered one of the most beautiful peaks of the eastern part of the park, and will boast some sweet vistas of Pedraforca and Comabona.

This day will also include the option of visiting Cathar Museum and having a wine and cheese tasting (at additional cost).

Upon completing the hike, we will head back to the inn for dinner and our final trek the next day.

Penyes Altes de Moixero

We will drive to our starting point for the climb after breakast. This will be a tough climb that includes some scrambling, but you will be rewarded with unforgettable views from the top of this mountain. This is a popular summit to attempt, and we have a couple options with varying levels of difficulty.

After our trek we will sip on local Gosol beer to celebrate our adventure, and then we will end our tour.

##### Walk with me among the clouds of Andorra on a four-day guide through the Pyrenees! We will spend a long weekend traversing the mountainside and climbing to the top of two of Andorra´s most popular peaks!

The Sorteny Natural Park is located in the north of Andorra, and is popular for its access and abundant flora. It has plant life that is unique to the Pyrenees, as well as an eclectic mix of flowers and forests that add to the spectacular mountain views.

The landscape of the region includes many deep lakes hidden between the valleys of the mountains, and the clouds dip down and nestle between the ridges to give you the impression that you are walking above them! This is truly a nature-lover´s dream hike!

Your trek will provide unbelivable sunrises and sunsets, matched in beauty only by the other mountain views. I will also be able to fill you in on the history and culture of Andorra, and perhaps have some of the stories and magic of this amazing country rub off on you.

We will meet at 9:00am in Barcelona, unless otherwise coordinated, and begin our journey to Andorra. After about a four-hour drive, we arrive at the Vallnord Ski Resort. We will take a 3-hour hike to Cataperdis Peak (2,806m) to acclimate ourselves with the mountains.

The summit sits on the border of Andorra and France, so you will be able to peer into both countries. Other mountains in the range and incredible lakes of Angonella will highlight the landscape.

After our gentle hike, we will head to the Sorteny Natural Park, and then walk to our accommodations the Sorteny Mountain Hut.

Cataperdis Peak

After breakfast, we make our way to the peak. Along our path, we will see incredible flowers, and we will pass the quaint Estanyo Lake en route to the top. Once we reach the summit (2,915m), we will be able to see some of the most captivating aspects of Andorra.

The descent will take us through other notable peaks, including La Cabaneta (2,863m) and Cap de la Serrera (2,724m). Once through Meners Pass (2,713m), we will be well on our way back to the mountain hut.

This hike covers 11km over about 7.5 hours, and will include an elevation gain of 1,050m.

Estanyo Peak

Our day will be filled with charming views of valleys and peaks, as Besali (2,637m) – while the lowest summit of our trip – offers some of the best views of the region. You will have a great vantage point to take in the Ordino Valley and many wonderful peaks of the Pyrenees, including Font Blanca and Casamanya.

This will be a 6-hour walk of about 11.5km, and an overall elevation gain of 810m.

Besali Peak

For our final hike of the program, we will take on the challenging summit of Tristaina (2,882m). The trek is worth the effort, and you will see stunning mountain lakes through cloud-studded views. The lake views make this hike absolutely special.

Tristaina is located on Andorra´s northern border with France, so you will have unprecedented views into all of the countries. Our descent will let us explore the landscape along the mountain paths and one of the Tristaina lakes.

The hike increases elevation by 750m, covering 6.5km in roughly 5 hours. This will allow us time to return to Barcelona after completing the hike.

Delve into the rich culture of the Pyrenees by hiking the Freedom Trail with me! Come to the Alt Pirineu Natural Park and learn about the role this region played in WWII while also having the hike of your life!

The Freedom Trail across the Pyrenees was a path used by Jewish families fleeing the Nazis in December of 1942. Escaping from occupied France, Holland, and Poland, families formed in two different groups met while crossing the mountain range on their way to Spain.

This perilous journey was quite a feat, and ultimately led to one of the people assisting the families, Jeanne Agouau (who lived on the French side of the Pyrenees and led one of the groups) receiving the French Legion d'Honneur. She even met her future husband on this trail!

You will be able to follow in their footsteps for a duration of their route, exploring the beautiful countryside of the Pyrenees. Along mountain ridges and through valleys, you will learn about the history of the region and the role it played during WWII.

There are few ways to better understand and appreciate history, particularly one as compelling as that of the Jewish experience during WWII. I will show you the beauty of a landscape that is as incredible aesthetically as it is culturally important.

We will fly to Barcelona to meet and organize our group. We will leave Barcelona BY 3:00PM as to arrive promptly in Tavascan (4-5 hours drive), where we will stay our first night.

Meet in Barcelona

Our journey today will take us past the Estany del Port and through the Tavascan Pass (2,216m) into France. This was a critical path during the Spanish Civil War, as well, used by Republican soldiers and citizens fleeing from General Franco.

After descending roughly 1,620 meters to Bidous, we will stay the night. We will cover 17.3km today, with a total increase in elevation of 1,025 meters and a duration of 9.5 hours.

Tavascan Pass

This is a moderate day, and it includes a charming walk through the deciduous forest of the Parc Naturel Regional des Pyrenees Ariegoises in France.

Aulus-les-Bains will provide us an opportunity to visit the Memoire et Histoire Vivante d´Aulus-les-Bains and further learn about and discuss the circumstances of WWII, the fates of the Jewish families in Aulus who attempted to flee to Spain, and the German impact on the isolated village.

We will remain in Aulus-les-Bains for the night after a 16.6km journey over about 8 hours.

Aulus-Les-Bains

This is the most challenging part of the trip. We won´t walk all the way to Tavascan like the Henle family did because there is nowhere to stay overnight before getting to Tavascan.

During the first part of the day, we will cross an awesome beech forest and then arrive to the Ars Cascade at 1340m. The cascada has 3 waterfalls (the highest is 110m high!). From there, we will reach Catalonia at the Port de Guilló pass and enjoy the stunning views of mountain and lakes.

After a 45 minute drive we will reach Tavascan where we will stay for the night.

Trek to Catalonia

After eating breakfast, we will head back to Barcelona and go our separate ways after an incredible trip!

We will experience the beauty, tranquility and cultural heritage of this Catalan village, in the **_Pallars Sobira_** region, a region of extraordinary natural beauty and magical winter scenery in the highest Catalan Pyrenees.

Our snowshoeing tours will take us on unique hikes through ancient and silent forests, crossing valleys and discovering tiny hidden villages, visiting local producers of wool and cheese, suurrounded by spectacular mountains and breathtaking views.

I will pick you up in Barcelona at 9 am. If you are unable to meet the group in Barcelona, these snowshoeing holidays will begin in Rialp, a small village in the Alt Pirineu Natural Park, set at 730m altitude, with only 670 full time residents.

After a 4.5-hour drive, we arrive at the hotel in Rialp where we leave our luggage. Then, we drive to _**Roni**_, a small village set at 1080m altitude, with only 50 full time residents. The nearest evidence of visitors here is the Port Ainé ski resort about 14km away.

Starting at Roni, we make a continuous ascent across deep forests to the ridge of the _Serra del_ Llus range. Once there we will visit some bunkers built and used during the Spanish Civil War.

Distance: 8km ‐ Elevation gain: 405m ‐ Duration: 4 hours, including breaks

Santa Magdalena Valley

The scenic village of Farrera is just a 25 minute transfer and is a great location to begin our walk. Today our route takes us through the **La Coma Valley**. Here we find numerous ‘bordes’, or shepherd’s huts, used to keep cattle and store feed.

Traversing first deep forests, we pass through two small villages ‐ **Farrera** and **Burg**, both of which have fewer than 100 inhabitants. This insight into a traditional way of life in the remote countryside is what makes this walk memorable.

Distance: 7.6km ‐ Elevation gain: 566m ‐ Duration: 5.75 hours, including breaks.

After the walk we transfer to the village of Tirvia to visit the rhomboidal gravestones built around the time that the Cathar Perfect _Bélibaste_ was arrested in the 14th century. To read more about Catharism, click [here](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catharism).

We also visit houses in Tirvia, including one with shrapnel marks on its façade, and another one where injured soldiers were treated. Tirvia was in the front line during the Spanish Civil War. It was completelly destroyed, and then rebuilt.

After our visit to Tirvia we transfer to Surp in the Assua Valley and visit **cheese producer Clara Ferrando,** who left her home near Barcelona to set up this sustainable and traditional cheese production in 2007. We will of course have the opportunity to try some of her award‐winning produce, accompanied with traditional wines of Catalonia. We end the day with a 15 minute transfer back to Rialp.

La Coma Valley - Tirvia - Assua Valley - Visit local cheese producer

For the third snowshoe walk of the week we explore the **Cardós Valley,** half an hour drive away. Again, an area not well known among tourists. We enjoy dramatic landscapes on our way to _Pla de Nequa_at 1978m. The trail crosses forests of birch, scots pines and dwarf mountain pines until we reach the Pla itself and enjoy the panoramic views over the whole valley and its surrounds.

Local folklore has it that this was the site of sabbath celebrations by witches during the Middle Ages. As such a well known Catalan writer based his novel ‘The witches of Pla Negua’ here.

Distance: 12.3km ‐ Elevation gain: 782m ‐ Duration: 6.8 hours including breaks.

After our walk we transfer to Rialp (30 mins) and visit a local **not‐for‐profit association** **(Obrador Xisqueta)** trying to maintain the local tradition of woolwork and thus guarantee extra revenue for the local shepherds who sell it, as well as the craftspeople who produce the woolwork itself. We haven’t included this visit in the price, because sometimes Obrador Xisqueta has no staff available to lead a visit.

We finish with a transfer back for our Hotel in Rialp.

 Pla de Nequa - Rialp

After breakfast we head off to _Planes de Son_, our starting point today, passing by **Son**, a village at 1390m famous for its Romanesque bell tower.

On our way to the **Fogueruix** Pass at 2110m, we get into the **Aiguestortes national** **park** and can stop at the _Pla de la Font_ mountain hut and crane our necks at some of the highest peaks in the area that tower above us. The pass itself lies between the Son Valley and the Espot valley. We descend via another route back down to the Planes de Son

Distance: 11.5km ‐ Elevation gain: 695m ‐ Duration: 7 hours including breaks.

The day finishes at Rialp, where our guide Miguel will give the group the chance to **try some of the local produce**, including cheese and sausages from the Pallars Sobira region, **all washed down with wine from the south of Catalonia**.

Aiguestortes National Park: Son valley and Fogueruix pass - Wine tasting

Today, our circular walk will take us to the summit of **Torreta de l’Orri** (2439m), a peak located at the top of the Port-Ainé ski resort. It represents the highest point we will reach during the tour and from here we will be rewarded by breathtaking views of Catalonia, and of the other peaks of the Pyrenees.

After having taken some moments to admire the beauty of the area we will follow a crest line to then continue into a dwarf-mountain pine forest called Duc.

Distance: 14.5km/ Elevation gain: 480m/ Duration: 7 hours including breaks

After the walk we transfer back to Barcelona where we arrive in the evening.

We will meet in Barcelona at 9am, and from there spend 4- to 5-hours travelling to Tavascan. We will stop at 2 tiny, isolated villages: Arros de Cardos and Esterri de Cardos.

Arriving in Barcelona

We will walk from Tavascan to the Ferrera Valley, passing by the Barborte Lake. We will cross the Barborte Pass. Total walking time will be of around 8.5 hours (15 km). A 45-minute drive will take us back to our accommodation.

Tavascan-Ferrera Valley

We will visit 8 pristine lakes, including Romedo d’Abaix, Romedo de Dalt, Guiló and Colatx. The scenery is stunning!

We will walk during 8 hours although hiking time can be shortened if necessary. We will stay overnight at the Certascan Mountain Refuge.

Romedo Lakes and Certascan Mountain Refuge

After breakfast, we will head to the most impressive lake in the Catalan Pyrenees. Certascan is the largest in this region, and the surrounding land will expose you to historical shepherd huts – bordes – where cattle and feed were stored in a previous time.

This day is fairly lengthy, climbing 1,240m in elevation over about 7 hours before heading back to Tavascan for the evening.

OPTIONAL: For ambitious hikers, we can head for the summit of Certascan.

Once back in the hotel, we will enjoy some local wine, cheese and sausages.

Certascan Lake

A different hike from the previous days because 50% of the trails have disappeared. We will be walking on wild terrain. We may also be able to spot some chamois in Serra Plana!

Walking time is 8 hours (18 km)

Soliguera Lakes

On the last day, we will visit the most beautiful lake in the park, the Mariola Lake. You will remember this lake forever! The Montarenyo and Port Lakes are also in the schedule for the day and you may even get to swim in the first one. Total walking time is around 4.5 hours.

We then transfer back to Barcelona.
