Passionate since childhood for climbing and surfing, originally from Mar del Plata where he was one of the pioneers developing mountain activities.

Nowadays and since 1990 he works as a mountain guide, including skitouring in the mountains and volcanoes of Patagonia, rock and ice climbing and climbing courses.

He is also a Biologist and constructor.

He has done many ascents in Patagonia including Cerro Torre and Fitz Roy (3 times, including first repetition of the via Tehuelche and at 5 pm the via Affanasief).

In sport climbing he has reached a maximum degree of 8a (French scale).

During the last 15 years he has also intensely practised Ashtanga yoga.

He speaks English, Italian, French and Spanish.

This backcountry ski in Bariloche program proposes different options for day trips. Near the city and its surroundings, for those who want to enjoy a skiing adventure in a beautiful and wild landscape.

Bariloche´s city is an excellent starting point for your backcountry skiing adventures, it is very close to the mountains and it has all the commodities a big town can offer you when returning from the mountains. The best time of the year to ski in Patagonia is between August and November, nevertheless late June, July and December at higher mountains may also be good.

It would be better if you have a good alpine skiing level and it is not necessary to have previous off-piste skiing experience.

##### **Day trip options for Backcountry ski in Bariloche:**

**INTRODUCTION TO BACKCOUNTRY SKIING.**  
Area: Cerro Catedral. | Duration: half day. | Difficulty: all skill levels

This is a half day trip recommended to persons who want to experience skiing off-piste far from crowds and also in a safe way with the company of a certified guide . The meeting point would be Catedral ski resort where you´ll share some runs with the guide. Then you´ll go “la Laguna” where you´ll be taught basic knowledge of specific material such as skis , bindings and climbing skins, mountain safety and off-piste skiing technique.

**CERRO CHALLHUACO**  
Area: Cerro Challhuaco. | Duration: Full day. | Dificulty: low/middle intensity.

This Mountain is situated at the eastern area of Nahuel huapi´s national park. It is a good option for beginners or when the weather is not very good. You´ll meet the guide in Bariloche and drive to the refuge area with 4 WD transfer. There we´ll start climbing up through lenga´s forest and then along an open area, up to the summit. We´ll go down through the same face we came up. Along the trip you´ll be taught basic knowledge of specific material such as skis, bindings and climbing skins, mountain safety and off-piste skiing technique.

**CERRO ÑIRECO**  
Area: Cerro López. | Duration: Full day. | Difficulty: middle/high intensity

This mountain is situated at the eastern area of Nahuel Huapi national park. After meeting the guide you´ll go to the base of it by private 4WD transfer. Depending on the amount of snow you´ll start walking with the skis on your backpack or climbing up with the skins, through Lenga´s forest and then over wide open ridges, once you arrive to the summit you´ll ski down choosing with the guide the safest itineraries. Along the trip you´ll be taught advanced knowledge of specific material, mountain safety and off-piste skiing technique.

**CERRO LOPEZ**  
Area: Cerro Lopez. | Duration: full day. | Difficulty: middle/high intensity

This mountain is situated on the western area of the park. We´ll climb through forests and slopes without vegetation to the refuge Lopez. There we will have a break before we continue ascending. Then you´ll choose with the guide the safest slopes, returning to the starting point. Along the trip I will teach you advanced knowledge of specific material, mountain safety and off-piste skiing technique.

**VALLE VAN TITTER**  
Area: Van titter valley. | Duration: full day. | Difficulty: Middle/high intensity.

Suitable for people with good skiing level, so it is not necessary to have previous ski touring experience. The meeting point will be Cerro Catedral where we will use the ski lifts. From the top of the ski resort we will continue on foot or with skins depending on the amount of snow and then descend down towards the Van Titter Valley. Thence the guide will evaluate if the return would be the same way or by the trail.

##### Bariloche is a classic spot for great splitboarding. And for 4 days, I would like to guide you on a great splitboarding tour that includes nights in the comfortable Frey hut and Jacob hut.

On this amazing trip, you will get to not only explore, but enjoy a great deal of the **Patagonian** landscape near **Bariloche**. However, before the **splitboarding** is set to begin, you will get to spend some time in the lovely city of **Bariloche**. This wonderful place is full of great sights, as well as delicious local cuisine.

The following day, you will get to depart from **Bariloche** and enjoy the nearby slopes. The first stop will be at the **Cerro Catedral**. From there, you will get to take a lift ride and make your way to the _Col del Viento_. After that, you will get to enjoy a fantastic descent to the **Van Titter valley**. Following that descent, you will then make your way up to the **Frey hut (1,700m)**, where you will spend the night and get some much needed rest.

For the next two days, you will get to **splitboard** in several wonderful areas. They include **the frozen Laguna Toncek, the Laguna Schmoll, the Rucaco valley, the Brecha Negra ridge,** and the **Cerro Cella**. And during the evenings on those days, you will get to relax and rest in the **Jacob hut**, otherwise known as the **Refugio San Martin**.

The **Refugio Frey (1700 m)** is one of the most famous rock climbing spots  in the Argentine Patagonia. On this half-day adventure participants will discover one of the best granite climbing in the area!

Join me on this fantastic multi day experience in a great trad climbing spot of Argentina: **Bariloche**. Located in north Patagonia, this amazing Andean village has something for everyone, no matter your skills or physical training.

This time I am offering a traditional climbing adventure that takes place around the **Frey Hut**, one of the most famous refuges in Bariloche.

As you may know, trad climbing is the basic style of climb through which you can access to varied walls surfaces as you ascend. In this type of activity **there is no fixed anchors** and you can climb rocks in solitary places.

**It will be an excursion of two days or more**, depending on your skills, technical level and available time in the area. Once we get to Frey Hut I will help you choose the trad climbing spot that best suits your preferences. There is a wide variety of alpine climbing routes around Frey Hut: from introductory itineraries to advanced multi-pitch routes.

Multi-day trad climbing expedition around Frey Hut

This 3/4 days **ski touring program in the area of Bariloche** is a classic traverse that links two huts climbing and skiing down three valleys.

You´ll Meet the guide in the city of San Carlos de Bariloche where you will have a talk about the activities; prepare and check the equipment.

The next day you´ll go to the base of Cerro Catedral, where with your backpack, skis and boots you´ll take a lift that will leave you almost at the top of the mountain, from where you´ll climb with skins until you reach the ”Col del viento” from where you´ll ski down towards Van Titter valley. Then you´ll ascend through the forest up to the Refugio Frey which is at 1700 meters above sea level where we´ll spend the night.

The following morning after breakfast we´ll go over Laguna Toncek (frozen and covered in snow), then climb to Laguna Schmoll and “cancha the futbol” which is at the ridge of Catedral. From there we will descend towards Rucaco valley, then climb to Brecha Negra ridge and descend to Refugio San Martin (Jakob).

On the next day we´ll stay in this area and ski on the mountains which are close to the Refugio like Cerro Cella and Constructores returning to the Refugio to spend another night and on the next day descend along the trail that finishes at the “Tambo” close to the road where the transfer will pick us up.

**This is a tentative itinerary. According to your preferences, skiing level and time availabilty, we can do a shorter 3 days program, just going to Frey for a couple of nights, or we can do a longer program, adding nights in Frey or Jakob refuges. The skiing possibilities around and in between both places are endless!**
