1-day Intro to backcountry splitboarding in Shirley Canyon, Lake Tahoe

The backcountry of Shirley Canyon, Lake Tahoe provides the ideal setting for learning the fundamentals of splitboarding, and I will take you on this 1-day trip where we will learn the basic skills and techniques needed to enjoy splitboarding with confidence, and at the same time admire and take in the raw natural beauty of this skiing and snowboarding paradise.

Nestled within the Lake Tahoe district, near the border of both California and Nevada, Shirley Canyon is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the crowds on the busy main ski slopes, and is full of tranquil and peaceful areas of alpine forests and cute little lakes.

We begin in the morning, where gear, safety equipment and information is dispensed, before heading out to the backcountry areas.

Over the course of the day we will be teaching you the most effective ways to plan and execute a backcountry splitboarding trip, such as how to read weather and avalanche patterns, and the most efficient way to splitboard over tricky terrain.

As this trip is for intermediate and above snowboarders, you should be able to pick things up quickly, and there will be plenty of opportunity to bask in the magnificent and at-time astonishing views back over the lush and gorgeous valleys of the area, including back over Lake Tahoe.

We finish in the afternoon having provided you with a springboard to further your splitboarding experience, and to delight in this sensational part of the world.
