Make your way from your home town to Kathmandu over these three days, arriving in the afternoon at the Yak and Yeti hotel.
We will spend the day exploring Kathmandu, visiting three UNESCO World Heritage sites and various other places in the city.
After flying to Lukla, we will load up our gear onto the yaks and head up a trail following the Dudh Kosi river until we reach our camping site. We will hike three to four hours on the first day and five to six hours on the second.
We will make a morning hike and gain about 300 meters of altitude in order to acclimatize. We then spend the afternoon exploring the local town of Namche, including its bazaar and marketplace.
We head to Thame for an interesting day in which we visit the home of lead guide, Lakpa Rita Sherpa, an experience rarely afforded to trekkers.
As we continue to hike toward the Everest base camp, we will pass through amazingly beautiful scenery as well as the villages of Khund, Khumjung and Tengboche. Along the way we will be sure to enjoy some amazing views out into the Himalayas.
We climb up to the village of Pheriche, where we will visit the world-famous, high-altitude clinic to learn more about the effects of high altitudes on human physiology.
We will hike through the high alpine landscape, passing through several settlements as well as a memorial to the Sherpas who have died at high altitude. Along the way, we will pass by a glacier and get a taste of mountaineering as we make our way to the base camp where we will spend the night.
We will hike back down from base camp, starting at sunrise, and passing through several remote villages. Along the way, we will enjoy fantastic views before relaxing for awhile in Namche.
Note that anyone who would like to end the trek early can fly back to Kathmandu on this day, weather permitting.
We will continue descending, meeting back up with the Dudh Kosi river and arriving in Lukla.
We will fly back to Kathmandu and spend the afternoon relaxing in the Yak and Yeti hotel. The following day is a free day to explore and see more sites in Kathmandu.
Fly out of Kathmandu and make your way home.
