Trek across the Cotahuasi Canyon
Visit enchanting villages and mingle with hospitable locals
Explore a real Jurassic Park with footsteps of dinosaurs
The mesmerizing route we’ll follow will take us to the Cotahuasi valley and canyon. The splendid sceneries you’ll get, with suspended bridges and even an enchanting waterfall, are something you cannot miss. Moreover, we’ll hike through lovely towns, getting to know the locals and learning about their lifestyle. All surrounded by the sight of Coropuna and Solimana, two magnificent peaks.
Day one will be an adventure on its own. I’ll pick you up from Arequipa. Then, we’ll head toward the Valle de Majes. After that, we’ll go to the Jurassic Park of Querulpa, where we’ll find dinosaur footsteps imprinted on the ground. After such an amazing place, we’ll visit the Toro Muerto petroglyphs. And then, we’ll trek towards the town of Chuquibamba for lunch. We’ll continue to the foot of Coropuna and Solimana, and descend to Cotahuasi.
On day two we’ll head from Cotahuasi to the villages of Taurisma, Tomepampa, and Huaynacotas. Then we will visit the thermal waters of Luicho and the town of Alca. After that we’ll return to Coahuasi.
Our last day we’ll trek by the Cotahuasi river by the Piro sector, towards the Sipia waterfalls. Then we’ll hop on our vehicle and return from the Cuyac bridge to Cotahuasi. That afternoon we’ll head back to the Majes Valley. And to end our adventure, we’ll stop at a Pisco Bodega to try some local varieties.
So don’t miss the opportunity to hike around this wonderful place. Let me guide you across it, and let’s discover together new fantastic things.
I also guide this Nevado Ampato 2-day guided climb from Arequipa, that you can check too.
I recommend to bring the following items: sleeping bag, comfortable clothing and shoes, gloves, hat, a small backpack for your personal belongings, sunglasses, trekking poles, a water bottle (at least 3 liters), a small flashlight, swimming suit and toiletries.
