Meeting point
Upon arrival in Kiruna, we’ll take a scenic one-hour drive to Nikkaluokta, a small Sámi mountain village. After settling into our cabins, we’ll check our gear to ensure everything’s ready for the ski touring adventure ahead.
In the evening, we’ll gather for welcome drinks and dinner at a local restaurant.
Our polar ski tour begins with a snowmobile journey through the mountains to the remote Sälka cabin, where we’ll spend the night. We’ll assess snow conditions and practice moving as a group before heading out to explore nearby terrain.
If the weather is favorable, we may summit and ski Sälka, a 1,372-meter peak with panoramic views of the Scandinavian mountain range.
Afterward, we’ll return to the cabin for a home-cooked dinner and relax in a wood-fired sauna, where we can also prepare water for a traditional backcountry “shower.”
We’ll head to Nallo, a remote mountain cabin known for its exceptional terrain. Along the way, we’ll explore several ski touring routes, stopping to enjoy the landscape before settling into the cabin for the night.
On this day, we’ll venture deeper into Nallo’s alpine playground, offering everything from mellow bowls to steep couloirs right outside our door.
If conditions allow, we may ascend Sielmatjåkka, one of Sweden’s 12 peaks over 2,000 meters, standing at 2,004 meters.
We’ll tackle Jojoleden, or the “Yoyo Route,” a challenging traverse known for its rolling ascents and descents across three mountain passes. For those looking for more, there’s the option to add extra runs and summit legendary mountains like Pyramiden, making for a rewarding day on skis.
The day ends at our cabin in Tarfala, surrounded by towering glaciers.
On the second day in Tarfala Valley, we’ll explore high-alpine terrain with views of Sweden’s largest glaciers.
If conditions are right, we’ll ride down Liljetoppsrännan, one of the area’s most famous couloirs. Alternatively, we can opt for long runs across Tarfala’s glaciated terrain.
We’ll wrap up the trip by skiing up and down Kebnekaise, Sweden’s highest peak at 2,097 meters. Your expert guide will choose the best route based on weather, conditions, and group energy, either via Östra Leden’s fixed ropes or through Halspasset.
After reaching the summit, enjoy a thrilling 1,000-meter descent to Kebnekaise Mountain Station, where hot showers, a sauna, and a farewell dinner await.
After breakfast, we’ll take snowmobiles back to Nikkaluokta, then drive to Kiruna Airport or Kiruna Central Station for your departure.
Accommodation
We’ve carefully selected our accommodations for their prime location and stunning surroundings, offering you a direct connection to Kebnekaise’s natural beauty.
To make the most of our time in the region, we’ve selected five unique accommodations that immerse us in the best of the Kebnekaise mountain range.
Nikkaluokta Sarri We begin our journey at Nikkaluokta Sarri, a simple mountain lodge run by a Sámi family. Located in a peaceful setting, this lodge offers cozy bedrooms, shared bathrooms, and immediate access to birch forests and mountain trails, providing an authentic taste of local life.
Sälka Cabin On Day 2, we’ll snowmobile along Kungsleden (The King’s Trail) to Sälka, a larger mountain cabin in the area. Here, we’ll enjoy dorm-style rooms, relax in the sauna, and restock any essentials at the on-site gear shop.
Nallo Cabin On Days 3 and 4, we’ll stay at the smaller, more remote Nallo Cabin, nestled near Tjäktjatjåkka (Čeakčačohkka). Known for its breathtaking mountain views and serene atmosphere, this cabin provides a true mountain experience with dorm-style rooms and basic comforts.
Tarfala Cabin Our fourth stop takes us to the Tarfala Cabin in Darfalvággi, a high alpine valley surrounded by glaciers and steep peaks. This rugged cabin offers dorm-style rooms, basic facilities, and a sauna, perfect for those seeking an authentic, close-to-nature experience.
Kebnekaise Mountain Station For our final stay, we’ll head to Kebnekaise Mountain Station, located at the base of Sweden’s highest peak. This alpine basecamp is more equipped than most backcountry cabins, with shared dorms (10-14 people), showers, shared bathrooms, a sauna, and a gear shop, while still offering a remote, rugged atmosphere.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Explore-Share was excellent in arranging everything for our day climb. The communication was quick, and the platform was easy to use, making our adventure stress-free.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
