Our Express Ascent offer a faster and more affordable option compared to the 5-day program. These climbs are only for experienced mountaineers who've already acclimatized themselves to the altitude. This challenging 3-day adventure demands an early start, long hours, and potential harsh weather, but the reward - conquering Mont Blanc - is unmatched!
Just contact us and we'll start planning your journey towards the summit of this iconic titan - the legendary Mont Blanc!
Meeting point
Meet in Chamonix (noon) or Les Houches cable car park. We'll take the scenic route - cable car & Mont Blanc rack railway - to Nid d'Aigle (2,362m). From there, a gentle 2-3 hour hike (800m elevation gain) leads to Tête Rousse Refuge (3,165m). Enjoy stunning views & prepare for your adventure!
Rise at 4 am for breakfast and gear up (headlamp, crampons, harness, helmet) before tackling the "Bowling Alley" at dawn. Ascend with cables to Goûter Refuge (3,815m) for a rest.
Navigate stunning glacial terrain, passing Dôme de Goûter (4,304m) with panoramic views. Brace for a technical climb along the exposed Bosses Ridge (Les Bosses) at 4,513m. The final ridge leads to Mont Blanc's summit (4,810m)!
Descend the same route and return to Goûter Refuge for rest. This challenging day requires early starts, long hours, and potential harsh weather. But the reward - conquering Mont Blanc - is unforgettable!
Today's focus is a safe descent! We'll wake up early and begin our trek down, aiming to pass the "Bowling Alley" before sunrise for optimal safety. After passing Tête Rousse Refuge, we can either stop briefly or continue directly to the Nid d'Aigle station (2,362m) for the train ride back.
If the previous day's summit attempt wasn't successful due to altitude, fatigue, or weather, we'll utilize today for one last push. An early wake-up call will be crucial to reach the summit early enough for a safe descent and train departure back to Chamonix.
The descent follows the same route as the ascent, offering a chance to appreciate the mountain from a different perspective.
Accommodation
You'll be staying at the Refuge de Tête Rousse, a mountain hut near Mont Blanc, situated at an altitude of approximately 3,167 meters (10,394 feet). This hut serves as a base for mountaineers attempting ascents of Mont Blanc. Also, you'll stay at the Refuge du Goûter, a high mountain hut located near the summit of Mont Blanc. Positioned at an altitude of approximately 3,835 meters (12,582 feet), it is a crucial part of the Goûter Route.
More info
Mont Blanc is not highly technical, but you need to have good cardiovascular fitness, previous experience with crampons and ice axe, and be capable of hiking 1000 meters in elevation gain each day. Our acclimatization climb will help you adjust to the altitude, improve your skills, and prepare for the ascent of Mont Blanc. We will email you a workout plan to follow in the weeks leading up to the climb, along with a kit list detailing everything you'll need for the activity.
What experience and how fit do I need to be to climb this mountain? Is this program suitable for children or older people?
For this 3-day itinerary it's MANDATORY that participants have previous experience with crampons, using a walking ice axe, and previous hiking experience. This may include previous hikes in the Pyrenees, climbs to peaks that have glaciers, the Scottish Munros, or equivalent endeavors.
How far in advance should I start training and what kind of training do you suggest?
At least 5 to 6 months in advance.
Will I need to bring any technical equipment of my own? Is it possible to rent equipment, and if so, what would be the approximate cost of that?
We provide technical gear such as ropes, slings, and carabiners. For personal equipment, you're welcome to bring your own. If you need to rent any items, we recommend Snell Sports in Chamonix—they're reliable and offer good prices. The final cost will depend on the items you need and the duration of the rental.
Will there be porters to help to carry group and personal equipment?
No, you will carry all your gear. We recommend bringing a 35L to 40L backpack, but nothing larger, and keep the weight under 7kg.
How will accommodation and meals be handled on the mountain?
You will be staying at Tête Rousse, Refuge du Goûter, all on a half-board basis. Participants will cover the cost of meals for the guide during the program. These are the meals and water that participants should provide for the guide:
What happens in the event of bad weather?
If the guide determines that weather or mountain conditions make it unsafe to attempt Mont Blanc, KooKoo Climb will offer one of the following alternatives:
a) A similar activity in a nearby location with safer conditions. This may include ascents such as Gran Paradiso, Monte Rosa, Aiguille du Tour, Arête des Cosmiques, or Entreves, among others.
b) The possibility to postpone the activity to a later date.
c) Cancellation of the activity. If we decide to cancel the trip due to the climb being considered unfeasible for safety reasons, the agency will retain 10% for management and administrative costs.
If the client chooses to decline Option (a), the standard cancellation policy above will still apply.
Please note that only the guide can decide to cancel a climb due to weather or conditions. Under exceptional circumstances, KooKoo Climb may choose, at its sole discretion, to issue a partial or full refund (minus transaction fees).
Unforeseen Changes During the Program
In the event that a taxi or transport service is required during the program—due to weather, storms, snow, natural disasters, or route alterations—this cost will be considered an additional expense to be shared among all participants.
Any unforeseen additional costs incurred due to changes in itinerary or conditions will be covered by the participants, if they exceed the original program price.
Are there any other special requirements such as permits/insurance/vaccines that we need to consider before the tour?
Although our public liability insurance covers the activity, we strongly recommend that you obtain climbing/travel insurance and cancellation insurance to avoid any issues in case you need to make a claim. A mountain accidents and repatriation insurance is mandatory. We recommend the one from the Austrian Alpine Club, which offers a very good coverage and is not expensive (around €70 for a year, and covering peaks up to 6000m): https://www.alpenverein.at/portal/service/mitgliedschaft/membership-benefits.php
What is the guide-to-client ratio to climb this mountain?
The maximum guide-to-client ratio is 1:2, and we also do 1:1 climbs if you prefer to have a more personalized experience.
What is the best time of the year to climb this mountain?
End of May to mid September.
Can I join a group?
Definitely! You can join a group of 2 people if you come on your own and want to join a group.
Do I need previous experience in order to climb Mt Blanc in 3 days?

Not all guided tours will be a summit success and so not all guided experiences will be great. Before the trip, Kookoo were communicative and it all seemed positive. But on my recent Mont Blanc trip with Kookoo, unfortunately I saw some of the downsides of going with a guided group. I booked a week in Chamonix to allow some weather window either side of the climb, hoping for some flexibility. The weather was absolutely perfect before and after our window. Unfortunately Kookoo were not able to offer flexibility. They also said it was unlikely to be a success due to rockfall in the Grand Couloir. I actually went up and checked two days before the climb and it was fine. Just some pebbles. Loads of people crossing. That was also why I booked the more expensive 3 day trip that we would cross in the cold of the morning, up and down. They tried to move the whole thing and say we would do Monte Rosa instead. That made no sense really to me because the weather was just as bad there. In the end the guide was quite nice and helpful and agreed to try to climb Mont Blanc and see how the weather was. Unfortunately one other member of the group was nowhere near fit enough to climb Mont Blanc and we all had to turn back after a few hours of the first day. This was completely outside of the control of the guided tour but I was a bit disappointed there was no flexibility to try again the next day with just me. They offered to do some small peaks in the area but this felt like buying expensive tickets for the Champions League Final and being offered Watford vs Bournemouth. One day also involved a long drive and sitting in the hut for most of the day. Very disappointed, I said no, losing a lot of money in the process. Overall the experience made me less sure about booking an expensive guided tour for Mont Blanc again. If so, I would make sure the guide offers flexibility on the dates and only go with 1:1 or with someone you know is fit enough. I would also not book in August - it seems the guides don't want to do it in August. I can see why people just decide to try it themselves unguided.

Our guides met with communicated with us really well leading up to the climb. Met with us the day before to prep and check our equipment. They were very knowledgeable and experienced.
