Mount Asama, one of Japan's newest active volcanoes in the Karuizawa area is easy-to-moderate ascent; perfect for all levels of outdoor enthusiasts.
We’ll start our adventure at the Kurumazaka Pass, 1973m above sea level, with a gentle 500m elevation gain, making it accessible for those with basic hiking experience. The route takes us to Maekakeyama, part of the outer rim, where you’ll be immersed in the rugged atmosphere of an active volcanic crater.
As you hike, enjoy the vibrant alpine flora that graces the trail, a perfect introduction to geology and botany—ideal for families with children. After the trek, unwind at the Tengu Onsen, famous for its bright red hot springs.
The trip begins with a convenient hotel pickup at 7:00 AM, and you'll return by 5:00 PM, leaving you with a full day of adventure. No special skills are needed—just bring comfortable trekking shoes and a spirit of exploration!

He was fantastic. There was a lot of bad weather rolling through, he was very accommodating to adjust times and the date to make sure we got it in. He hit every item on our list of requests and was even prepared to stay longer, but we were spent. I would absolutely recommend him for any climbing adventure.

Kenji was delightful and inspired confidence. Unfortunately the weather was not on our side, and the rock was very wet. On a dry day this would be a simply beautiful climb. However he more than made up for it by taking us on a longer hike, and when the sun finally came out went out of his way to drive us to the best viewpoints to see Fuji. He also shared his delicious ginger tea with us when we got cold and wet! I’d certainly recommend him and this climb, but on a dry day.
