At 6,960.8 m (22,837 ft), Aconcagua is the highest mountain in South America, and one of the famous 7 summits. On this one-week adventure, we will trek to the Plaza de Mulas base camp, which lies at an altitude of 4,200 m (13,779.53 ft). We will also climb to the summit of the nearby Cerro Bonete, which will give us great views of Aconcagua’s west face. You can find a detailed itinerary below.
Please keep in mind that this is not a technical climbing program and that we won’t reach the summit of Aconcagua. However, although you don’t need to be an experienced mountaineer to join this program, you do need to have a very good fitness level. Of course, I will be there to help and guide you on the way and to facilitate logistics so as to make the trip all the more enjoyable!

Meals: all the meals from lunch on Day 1 to lunch on Day 7.

In this first day we have our meeting in Mendoza Airport. Then we will go to our accommodation in the city to check the personal equipment. If necessary, we will go to a rental shop. After that, we will go to the Aconcagua Park Office to get the ascent permits and we will talk about the development of the expedition. From our accommodation, we will have transportation to Penitentes.
After breakfast, we will go to the Horcones Valley 2.950 m Here we get our climbing permits stamped at the rangers checkpoint and begin the approach to Confluencia camp. After a relaxed hike, we arrive at the camp, Confluencia 3460 m. For the hike, you will be carrying only a day pack with some essentials, as the mules take care of the heavy duties.
After breakfast, we will start our trek to South Face Aconcagua Viewpoint 4.000 m We will see a giant wall that stands 3,000 meters above us, really impressive. From this place, Aconcagua appears more magnificent and intimidating than ever. We can see the entire South Wall. We’ll trek for about 5 hours. We will back to Confluencia Camp.
After breakfast, we start our walk across “Playa Ancha”. We slowly gain altitude up to the Horcones Superior Valley. After hiking across Playa Ancha and climbing up through a very steep path, “Cuesta Brava” (meaning Rugged Slope), we reach Plaza de Mulas, at 4.250 m.
Rest day in Plaza de Mulas, at 4.250 m. This day will be to know the Plaza de Mulas camp. You can visit the tallest Art Gallery in the World (World Guinness Record.) The immediate vicinity of the camps, with the incredible view of the Western Wall of Aconcagua, the Horcones Superior Glacier, and Cerro Cuerno.
After breakfast, we start the ascent to Mt Bonete’s summit. From this mountain, we´ll see the awesome Aconcagua west face, as well the huge Plaza de Mulas’ Base Camp. The surrounding landscape it’s amazing, you could admire the vast expanse of the Andes. Then we return to Plaza de Mulas.

More info The trip can be canceled by the company due to causes beyond the organizers’ control when safety cannot be guaranteed due to weather conditions or other reasons; or because the minimum number of participants could not be reached. The participant can choose between a new date of departure or a full refund. Tourism in wild areas has characteristics that make it stand out from conventional tourism. Logistics are particular due to complexity and the proposals depend on factors that may change. That is why the entire schedule may vary even though the whole trip has been carefully planned. The guides who are in charge of the activity may modify the itinerary totally or partially when they consider that one or more participants’ physical or psychological integrity is at risk or due to weather conditions or security reasons. The guides firstly guarantee the participants’ safety and are present during the whole trip. |
