The Nevado Cayambe is the perfect option if you are looking for an ascent in less travelled routes of Ecuador, with Fredy, UIAGM certified mountain guide.
This mountain is a well kept secret, because its ascent route is as nice as Cotopaxi but we’ll find way less mountaineers in our way up. Just as the other nevados in Ecuador, the path to the summit of Nevado Cayambe is abundant with beautiful cleavages, nevertheless the ascent is not very technically demanding.
Nevado Cayambe (5790 m) is the third highest peak in Ecuador and its summit is the highest in the Andes north of the Equator.
It is located in the Pichincha province, approximately 70 km northeast of Quito. It is one of the volcanoes in the Cordillera Real, the same mountain range of Cotopaxi.
Day 1. From Quito to Cayambe Refuge (4600 m).
Day 2. From the refuge to Cayambe Summit (5790 m), then back to Quito.
Please contact me if climbing this Nevado sounds interesting!
We will sleep in the Cayambe Refuge.
IFMGA/UIAGM Mountain Guide from Ecuador.
I grew up in Antisana volcano region, and as a kid I already did many hiking and ascents in the area.
I first ascended Cotopaxi in 1985, when I was 12 years old, and since then my life spins around mountaineering. At 17 I started my formation as mountain guide, and in 2008 I became the third IFMGA certified guide in Ecuador.
I participated as member and guide in many expeditions around Ecuador and South America, some of them in rare routes, and making first ascents.
From 2007 to 2009 I was director of ASEGUIM’s mountain guide school.
I speak Spanish, English and Quichua (native Inca language), and love to guide people to discover the mountains in my country.
Fredy Tipan is like a superhero of the outdoor world. He knows absolutely everyone, has climbed and guided in the most epic of locations all around the world, knows the mountains like old friends, and really loves what he does and who he does it for. Our trip was completely messed up after an issue with our airline tickets. We weren\'t going to be able to leave until a week after our planned departure which jeopardized our entire trek with Fredy. We didn\'t expect him to take any sort of responsibility in replanning as it was our mistake that caused the airline issue but he absolutely did. Within days he rearranged the entire trek so that we would be able to summit all our desired peaks without cutting the days down and without changing the cost. He is a class act and an incredible guide and I\'d say my husband and I both consider him a friend as well. We will definitely be booking another trip with Fredy Tipan and recommend him to anyone looking for the real deal in outdoor Guides. Thank you, Fredy!
Amazing short but exciting climb to a summit with outstanding views. Perfect acclimatization peak for the bigger Ecuadorian volcanoes, with a cozy hut and a nice approach walk. Fredy was fantastic, thank you so much for this unforgettable experience!
