Description

The Piz Boe (3,152m) is a fantastic peak in the Sella Group in the Dolomites of Italy. In fact it is the highest peak in the entire Sella Group massif. And on this day trip you will get to reach the top by way of the thrilling and incredibly scenic Cesare  Piazetta via ferrata.

Like all via ferratas, the Cesare Piazetta via ferrata is an exciting, unforgettable experience. It will feel like you are walking on the walls of the mountain itself. And while such a concept can seem frightening at first, you can rest assured that you will be safe and secure at all times.

This trip will last between 4 and 6 hours. And every minute of the way you will get to admire the beauty of the Sella Group massif and the Dolomite mountain range.

Beginning at Passo Pordoi, we will make our way along a hiking trail until we reach the start of the Cesare Piazetta via ferrata. Once the via ferrata begins, the first 100 meters or so are demanding. As a result, it is important that participants on this trip are in good physical condition. As the day progresses, the via ferrata will get easier. Hence giving you more time to appreciate the priceless views. And when you get to  the top of the Piz Boe, you will get to enjoy the best views of all.

If you like adventure and fantastic views of great peaks, this trip is for you. So send me a request and enjoy the Cesare Piazetta via ferrata. I look forward to hearing from you.

I can also lead you on the oldest via ferrata in the Sella Group, the Mesules via ferrata on this day trip.

About the guide

Hi! I'm Renato, IFMGA guide from the Dolomites, and I work together with my colleagues Robert, Bruno, Patrick, Benedetta & Walter (German speaking). If I'm not available to guide you, one of them will take care of you.

I was born in 1961, I live in Campitello di Fassa, in the Dolomites, together with my family. I have two sons, one is a mountain guide, the other is a ski instructor. I am a certified mountain guide since 1982, an instructor of guides, alpine ski instructor and a Federal coach for ISEF.

Being in the mountains has always been my passion, guiding people, teaching them climbing, mountaineering... during the various seasons of the year. I very much enjoy drawing nice curves in fresh powder snow and discover the charm of the frozen waterfalls.

My curriculum and professional mountaineering is made of many ascents and some openings of routes in the Dolomites and the Alps. I climbed in Yosemite Valley (California), Ben Nevis (Scotland) and Norway, Greece, Spain and Sardinia. I did also several high altitude climbs like Mt Denali (Alaska), Ama Dablam (6828m), Cho Oyu (8201m), Manaslu (8163m), Shivling in India (6545m), Cotopaxi and Chimborazo in Ecuador (5897m and 6310m), Patagonia (Argentina).

Feel free to get in touch with me if you are coming in the Dolomites for skiing (alpine, freeride and ski touring), rock climbing, sport climbing and multi pitch climbing. It will be my pleasure to guide you here and let you discover my secret spots.

Bernard was not able to guide us but arranged for a capable and friendly replacement Names Paolo. Snow conditions directed that off piste skiing that we hoped to do would not be safe or enjoyable. Paolo therefor helped us get to and see off the main routes part of the southern Dolomites and ski the Marmolata glacier (which is lift serviced). He was very patient and safety conscious in guiding us down the glacier a total white out. We enjoyed his company although we were a bit challenged in communications due to his at times limited English and the weather conditions.

Great guide who coped well with one of our party being ill. Paused the tour and arranged taxi transfer back to the hotel then continued to complete the Sellaronda. Great day despite the unfortunate illness and consequent delay.

Patrick was an excellent host. He was in touch beforehand to check our competence levels and discuss itineraries. He checked out the conditions on the options and made an excellent plan. The two descents we made were amazing given the difficult conditions. Highly recommended. Not the sorts of places you want to go without a local expert. Couloir di San Anton and Val de Mesdi. One hell of a day!!

How is possible to turn the worst snow conditions into one of the best skiing days ever? Renato Bernard is your answer. A brilliant day with a brilliant guide! We were a skier and a snowboarder, and one the first run he testet our skills and then laid out a full day of perfect, challenging runs. I would do this again and again…

My assigned guide was Robert Cecco, one of the funniest and awesome trips I've had in my life. The weather was not good in Val di Fassa (too warm and risky) so Robert suggested we moved to Colfosco, and everything was awesome there, more than 100 meters of ice climbing in each day, the guide was super friendly and easy to reach at all times he even helped me on solving a problem with my rental car. The adventure was intense physically and mentally like I was searching. Definitely more than I expected.

Renato was a superb guide who we were lucky to have. I have given 4 * for the overall tour as I would have wanted a local guide in an ideal world. Explore share provided a good service but ideally might have helped a little more at the early stages of planning where I was struggling to get information about the tour details.

We did not end up getting guided up Tridentina by Renato. We went up Piccolo Cir with a lady named Benny. She was great and a patient guide. Her recommendation to go to Piccolo Cir instead of Tridentina for our group was a good recommendation based on our experience, the weather conditions, and allotted time. I would have liked more guidance from Explore-Share upfront on choosing the best via ferrata for our group.

We enjoyed the guiding, Renato works professionally. Nonetheless, as the weather forecasts were poor (although the weather was well) it would have provided more comfort if the platform (or guide) would have communicated faster. Except for that, we enjoyed our trip.

My partner and I spent a day in Cinque Torri climbing with Benny, one of Renato's guides. She was absolutely excellent, extremely professional and we both felt very safe with her - she spent most of her life climbing. When we booked, we expected just some single-pitch climbs and one multi-pitch, so we were thrilled to find out that we'd be climbing Torre Grande, the 100m+, 5-pitch tallest tower in the area. It was spectacular. We normally climb up to about 6a/6b indoors, so we found parts of it challenging, other parts easy, but the experience was incredible. At the end Benny lowered us from the top of the tower back to safety. The views were excellent all around. The day lasted from 9am to 5pm and there's a great refuge just 10min walk from Cinque Torri with awesome views of the surrounding mountain range and lovely hot chocolate to finish the day. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to try out climbing in the Dolomites.

Our guide was Walter Del Frè and we would like use his name in our review. He was very kind, patient and knowledgeable about the mountains and even the plants. We would recommend him to anyone! HOWEVER the same cannot be said about the Explore-Share company. Their communication was not personal (auto replies most of the time) and communicating via WhatsApp felt unprofessional to me. The 2 major issues were a) at no stage were we issued with a formal receipt (even though we asked for one) and b) we kept getting messages to pay after we had done so. In both cases we wer told not to worry. Well, I did, and it eas an extremely stressful experience.

Our actual guide -benny was great and easy to communicate with. Renato Bernard however did not handle this company well. Complete disservice. The weather was 90% thunderstorms on the day we were supposed to go, our hotel highly discouraged it (as he used to be a guide) so we had asked for a different date. He gave us another guides number we arranged to go on Saturday instead with him due to the other guide not being available. Then last minute (after the ferrata trek was supposed to start) I get an email from Renato stating that we had to go with our original guide and because she would cancel /didn’t have any other dates available we would lose our money. He then did not return any further emails or correspondence from us. Just left us in the dirt. EVEN WHEN THERE WAS A GUIDE readily available to take us the next day under better weather conditions. My recommendation would be to book last minute. Because this company does not handle weather related incidents/safety/ rescheduling well. Would not try this company again or recommend it to others because of this. Especially with a company the relies so heavily on the weather. You think they’d have a better system in place. Because of this we sacrificed a 6hr via ferrata for a 3 hr..

Renato was not available, but he connected us with Andrea, a certified guide from his alpine school. Andrea was extremely friendly, flexible, and easy to communicate with before the trip. We met him at the chair lift for Cinque Torri, and he led my 13-year-old daughter and my husband on their first multi-pitch climbing route (and repel). He took his time to assess their skills, ensure they understood all of the safety precautions, answered all of their questions, and verified their comfort level. Andrea was a patient and knowledgable guide, and also very engaging - even with me and my 11-year-old son who stayed on the ground. He went above and beyond, taking the time to join us for lunch at the rifugio. This experience was the highlight of our time in the Dolomites, and I would strongly recommend Andrea.

My daughter and I had a wonderful time. The via Ferrata was great, the view was stunning and our guide, Benny, was wonderful. She oriented us of what’s coming, knowledgeable about the area, and making sure we’re comfortable with the pace. She helped us also with our accommodation to and from Figo di Fassa to the foot of the chairlift which we really appreciated her for that. About the via ferrata, make sure you wear mountain shoes.

Renato went above and beyond in all aspects of this trip to the dolomites. this was my first ever ski-tour. through our correspondence renato guided me to a hotel and town i could stay at leading up to the ski-tour in order to hit some resort skiing between christmas and new year. he met me in the indoor-bouldering room in campitello, several days before the tour, so i had a chance to meet the person in whose hands i‘d be putting my life for three days! several locals approached me in the days after, and would tell me how renato had taught them how to climb and summit mountains. turns out renato is quite the local legend and that certainly helped me know my trust was in the in right place. renato helped me coordinate the refuge, and even paid a deposit for me to secure the spots. he lent me a lot of his own equipment for the tour, and showed me where i could rent a pair of ski-touring skis for a single day solo-trial up val duron a few days before we started. he not only picked me up and drove me to the refuge but on the last day offered to drive me all the way to bolzano so could catch my train home in the most convenient manner possible. we summited two mountains, sasso delle dieci and col bechei si sopra, that’s no.2 and no.3 in my life. renato was patient, tremenously knowledgable, good humoured and encouraging, a fascinating storyteller, ever so kind and really looked after me. without me even asking him to, renato took some of the best photographs anyone’s ever taken of my in my life and shared them with me each day so i had a live diary on my strava account! i must say that without a doubt this has been the best holiday ever in my life - so much beauty, such interesting challenges and new accomplishments. i surely am the happiest debutant ski-tourer! renato is the most exemplary guide. i could not recommend him highly enough. thank you explore-share!

Great intro to via ferrata. Our guide was Roberto and he was great. He was at the meeting point waiting for us and was very thorough in checking our equipment before we got onto the climb. He gave us tips along the way as to what to look out for, how to find footholds, etc. He took photos with his phone along the way, and forwarded them to us afterwards, so that we weren't fumbling for them ourselves. Very professional and recommendable.

Explore share were highly responsive and found me a guide very last minute who was excellent. My only comment would be that due to the speed at which we completed the route, the day ended early afternoon so it would have been nice to fill out the rest of the time - it would therefore be helpful to clarify what is included in the price (e.g. am I paying for time such as a full day, or the route etc).

Since Renato could not confirm our trip, his son Etienne (who is also a mountain guide) did a perfect job guiding us firstly on Via Ferratas and going all the way up to a pure rock climbing on the last day. We have gained exactly what we've wanted from this trip and thanks to Etienne - even more! Etienne showed himself as a professional guide, who truly knows the mountain, who is able to quickly evaluate his client's capabilities and suggest appropriate routes in order to enhance the excitement, and who is willing to share his experience and knowledge to increase your degree of immersion!

My fiancé and I were new to ski touring and requested our guide to assist us in completing the historical haute route. 5 nights and 6 days. Renato became not just our guide but our friend during the trip. We faced unexpected challenges from Mother Nature and Renato protected us. He patiently taught me how to ski tour and maneuver the mountain even though I should have known already. His stories and charming personality made the trip so much more enjoyable. His knowledge of the terrain and our skill limitations allowed him to guide us safely to our destination. We hope to hire him in the future for more fun adventures. He was very mindful and goes out of his way with ensuring that our family has an enjoyable and safe experience. He chose the right degree of difficulty for our trip. We enjoyed hearing about all his tips, stories, future trip recommendations. He took a lot of pictures of our family at great scenic spots. He even treated us to cappucinno drinks along the way. We enjoyed being together with him so much, we shared beverage, snack and stories with him after the activity was over. He adapted well to the different skill/fitness levels of those in our group. He even took pictures of us throughout the trip. We later found out it was his birthday! What a great way to celebrate a birthday by sharing in what he loves to do. Would highly recommend for beginners.
