Description

The Chabod Hut (2750 m) -or rifugio Chabod, in Italian- is located at the foot of the north-west face of the Gran Paradiso mountain (4061 m). The refuge is at the heart of the Gran Paradiso National Park, in the Aosta Valley.

Today I invite you to join me on a great 1-day hike to the Chabod Hut. This refuge is also the starting point of the Gran Paradiso route and it offers a spectacular view of the Massif.

It’s a really enjoyable and easy hike and a great opportunity for a day in the mountains surrounded by a beautiful scenery. The trail starts in Pravieux (1871 m), in Valsavarenche. We arrive by car and about 1 km before Pont, a big sign indicates the beginning of the trail.

It was originally a hunting route for the Savoia lords and you will notice the perfect construction of the path. Every stone was placed in the right place as to make it a pleasant walk and allows to maintain an easy pace. It climbs gradually along a wide winding bend, entering an impressive larch forest that extends beyond the 2300 m.

Along the way, we often have the chance to see and hear marmots in the flowered pastures. We will walk for about 1 hour until we reach the Lavassey cottages (2190 m), where we can stop and admire the natural beauty of the valley. Then we continue hiking up for about 2 hours. Along the way, we will notice how landscape changes!

When we finally reach the refuge we will enjoy a spectacular view of the Gran Paradiso massif. It’s definitely a privileged location!

Don’t hesitate to send me a request if you want to enjoy this great hike to the Chabod Hut! We’ll spend a great hiking in the Aosta Valley!

We did a 1 day Ferrata with Marica. We've both never climbed a Ferrata before but we are both good hikers. We enjoyed our trip very much and you don't need to be a climber. Marica took good care of us and she is very informative with the local geography and history. We felt very safe with her. If you are traveling near the Dolomite and want to try something a bit out of your comfort zone, I highly recommend doing a ferrata especially with Marica. We did both ferrata ra gusela nuvolau and ferrata-averau. It took us about 6 hours.
