Get the opportunity to discover the magic of the Dolomites by hiking among breathtaking landscapes and enjoying the local hospitality in the mountain huts (rifugios) in the surroundings of Rosengarten, Sassolungo, Sella, Marmolada, Alta Badia, and Cortina.
We will hike together through wild alpine meadows, evergreen forests, high-altitude lunar-like terrain, soaring peaks, dramatic walls, and towering mountains. The Dolomites are a uniquely beautiful mountain area and a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site.
We can either go on a hut-to-hut tour or stay in one place and explore a different area of the Dolomites each day. With my in-depth, insider knowledge of the Dolomites, I can advise you on the most beautiful and interesting corners of the region, take you to places you’d never get to on your own, and help you discover the history and culture of the area. There is easy access to trails for all levels of ability and experience. I will also introduce you to the local cuisine of this unique meeting point between the Italian and Austrian culinary and cultural traditions.
The hike can be combined with some:
– glacier trekking on Marmolada (the highest peak, 3,343m) – via ferrata on Marmolada, Cortina or Sella – rock climbing in Passo Sella, Cinque Torri, and other great spots
The best time to come hiking in the Dolomites is from mid-June to early October.
Get in touch with me if you plan to come to the area and want to discover the Dolomites while hiking among these unique sites. It will be my pleasure to guide you in this region where I come from and which I know so well.
Please note that I only organize private tours. Unfortunately, I can’t offer open group departures at the moment. Thank you!

When is the best time to go hiking in the Dolomites?
The ideal time to visit the Dolomites depends on your interests and activities. For hiking and pleasant weather, late spring (May) and early summer (June) are great options. Autumn (September to October) offers vibrant foliage and fewer tourists.
What can I expect on a Hiking tour to Dolomites?
Breathtaking Scenery: From peaks and green alpine valleys to glacial lakes and wildflower-filled meadows, the Dolomites offer some of the most stunning and varied landscapes in the Alps.
Well-Maintained Trails: Most trails are clearly marked and well-kept. However, some sections may be more technical or require Via Ferrata equipment for safety.
High Altitude Hiking: Many trails reach altitudes of 7,000–8,000 feet (2,100–2,400 meters) or higher. Be prepared for the effects of altitude and plan accordingly.
Unpredictable Weather: Weather conditions can shift quickly. Afternoon thunderstorms are common in summer, so start hikes early and check forecasts regularly.
Historical Interest: You may come across World War I relics, such as old bunkers, trenches, and ruins of military outposts.
Varied Difficulty Levels: While classic routes like the Alta Via 1 are challenging, there are also many trails suitable for less experienced hikers.
What equipment should I bring?
For a hiking trip in the Dolomites, it's important to pack a well-prepared backpack with all the essentials. Be sure to include sturdy hiking boots, a waterproof jacket, an insulated or fleece layer, and clothing you can layer to adapt to changing temperatures. Don’t forget sunglasses, a hat, gloves, and a first-aid kit.
What are the common recommendations when hiking in the Dolomites?
Acclimatize Gradually: If you're arriving from lower elevations, allow time to adjust to the altitude to avoid discomfort or altitude sickness.
Stay Hydrated and Protected: Drink plenty of water and apply sunscreen regularly—UV exposure is stronger at higher altitudes.
Choose the Right Route: Select trails that match your fitness level and experience. Don’t underestimate the terrain.
Monitor the Weather: Check forecasts before heading out and avoid exposed areas during stormy conditions.
By Hiring a Guide, if you're unfamiliar with the region or planning a more technical route, a certified mountain guide can enhance your safety and experience.

Mountain Guide
Hi! I'm Renato, IFMGA guide from the Dolomites, and I work together with my colleagues Robert, Patrick & Walter (German speaking), Paolo, Matteo, Davide, Giorgia and Luca.
If I'm not available to guide you, one of them will take care of you.
I was born in 1961, I live in Campitello di Fassa, in the Dolomites, together with my family. I have two sons, one is a mountain guide, the other is a ski instructor. I am a certified mountain guide since 1982, an instructor of guides, alpine ski instructor and a Federal coach for ISEF.
Being in the mountains has always been my passion, guiding people, teaching them climbing, mountaineering... during the various seasons of the year. I very much enjoy drawing nice curves in fresh powder snow and discover the charm of the frozen waterfalls.
My curriculum and professional mountaineering is made of many ascents and some openings of routes in the Dolomites and the Alps. I climbed in Yosemite Valley (California), Ben Nevis (Scotland) and Norway, Greece, Spain and Sardinia. I did also several high altitude climbs like Mt Denali (Alaska), Ama Dablam (6828m), Cho Oyu (8201m), Manaslu (8163m), Shivling in India (6545m), Cotopaxi and Chimborazo in Ecuador (5897m and 6310m), Patagonia (Argentina).
Feel free to get in touch with me if you are coming in the Dolomites for skiing (alpine, freeride and ski touring), rock climbing, sport climbing and multi pitch climbing. It will be my pleasure to guide you here and let you discover my secret spots.

Patrick was very experienced and gave good guidance for our first via Ferrata experience. We would not have been able to reach the summits without his help! The hikes he recommended are also very enjoyable and beautiful where we are able to witness the landmarks of the Dolomites at good angles
Stay up-to-date on the best adventures.
