Description

In this 2-days mountaineering program we propose to reach Mt. Alvear, the summit of the third highest mountain in Isla Grande of Tierra del Fuego in the Argentinean area. This includes two days and an overnight in the mountain going over the heights of the Fuegian Mountain Range.

Itinerary:

Day 1:

The first day consists of five hours trekking to reach the Base Camp (BC). After setting up the tents we will practice all the necessary (crampons and piolet techniques) for the next day in which we will reach the summit. In this day trip we will walk along Lasifashaj Valley and the hanging Valley of Alvear going through Lengas and Coihues forests. The trekking finishes with a partial climbing of Monte Alvear’s side hill until we reach the BC.

Day 2:

On the second day, very early in the morning, we will set off from the BC to the summit. From the begging of this daytrip we will meet ourselves surrounded by the mountain environment walking through glaciers. On our way back, after having achieved the summit, we will disarm the BC and continue our march to the rout, from where we will return to Ushuaia City.

The views, the landscape and the feelings when transiting Alvear Mount are beyond description. Contact me if you want to live this unforgettable experience!

Mountain Guide

Mountain Guide, GEM-AAGM Ski Guide, UIMLA, AIARE level 2 from Argentina.

I was born and live in Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world! I've been skiing since I was 2 years old, and competed as a ski athlete in a Nordic ski and Biathlon world ski championships, world cups and in the winter Olimpic Games Torino 2006

In 2007 I retired from professional competitions to focus on my guiding career. I trained on rock, ice and mixed climbing skills as well as guiding techniques and became a mountain guide in 2011 at the Argentinean Mountaineering Guides Association (AAGM). In 2017 I completed the guiding courses to become also a certified Ski Mountain Guide GEM-AAGM.

I've done a large number of technical climbs at the Darwin Range and Patagonia while many of those are new lines

Marine was a really wonderful guide and she made the 3 day trek around Tierra del Fuego a great pleasure for us. She is very knowledgable and a very professional guide. Marine also helped us with renting clothes that we needed and went the extra mile to make sure we had everything we would need. I would definitely recommend this trek as well as Marine and Seba. Booking and paying through explore-share was also very easy and efficient. Thank you to all!

Sebastian was a great guide! We felt very safe and it was really fun getting to know him. We liked him so much we decided we would do a second trip while we are in town. If I ever come back to Ushuaia, I will definitely track him down for more trips

My friend and I went for a day backcountry skiing to Martial Galcier. We had a brilliant time, the guide was a champion!

Facundo was amazing! I have some climbing experience and my partner had never climbed before. Similarly, my partner speaks Spanish but I only speak English. Facundo not only guided us expertly through several routes but also taught us a lot about Ushuaia. The experience does involve a 20-30 minute hike to the climbing location so be prepared for a trek. But it was a fantastic experience and highly recommend being able to say you climbed in Patagonia :)
