Description

This Elba & Capraia trekking and sailing program in Tuscany is your best chance to discover every angle of these beautiful islands!

The Tuscany is a beautiful region located in the center of Italy, on the west coast. It’s known for its amazing landscapes, traditions, history and artistic legacy.

And this program will take place in what could be the most incredible part of it. In the heart of the Arcipelago Toscano National Park, Capraia and Elba are to pearls that will reveal all their magic to you.

And I’ve designed an 8-day journey to discover them by hiking through their ancient trails and salingo along their coast, in the blue Tyrrhenian Sea.

This sailing trip will give us the chance  to discover some of the wildest and most elusive spots on both islands. And we’ll be walking along ancient trails to appreciate every detail of the islands sceneries and to understand their history. And in the way you’ll be learning some basic notions on sailing a boat, always having as much fun as possible.

This Elba & Capraia trekking and sailing trip in Tuscany is a great way to discover these beautiful islands and their surroundings. Please send me a request now to join a group or let me know when you want to come, and we’ll start organizing your trip!

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival

Meeting in the Marina of Rosignano Solvay (LI) where we will board the boat and the skipper will give a briefing on safety. Soon we will set sail direction Capraia. The crossing time changes according to the weather conditions but it should take around 6 hours. We will dock at the small port of Capraia and dine in one of our favorite restaurants run by the former Italian champion of deep sea fishing.

Day 2: Monte Penne hike

Breakfast on board, back packs preparation and we leave for the first trek, the ring path that takes by the side of the natural lake called Stagnone and to the highest peak of the island, Monte Penne (420 m). It will take about 6.30 hours to complete the tour. Dinner and a night on the boat.

Day 3: Sailing to Elba

The day will include hiking and sailing towards the Isola d’Elba. We will start walking on the foot steps of the first day and later take a South direction to reach the Punta dello Zenobito. The boat will be there waiting for us and from there we will sail to Elba. It will take about 4 hours depending on the weather. In the late afternoon we will reach the small harbor of Cavo. Dinner in a local restaurant and sleep on the boat.

Day 4: Great Elba hike

We start the Great Elba Trekking that will take us in 4 days to Pomonte on the opposite side of the Island. We will climb Mount Grosso (348 m) from where you can have a great look at that side of the wild North Coast. Then we will continue to the Cima del Monte (516 m) where our view spans from Portoferraio on the North Coast to Porto Azzurro on the East Coast where we will arrive in the afternoon after 6 hours walking. In the Harbour we will find our boat that has meanwhile arrived. Dinner on the boat.

Day 5: hike through the valleys

Today is a seven hour walk from Porto Azzurro to Marina del Campo. We will be walking along the Valley of Botroe and the Valley of Buraccio, We will climb the peaks of Monte Orello (377 m), Mount San Martino and Tambone, our last great sight seeing point before our descent to Marina del Campo where the boat will be waiting for us. Dinner on shore and a good night sleep on the boat.

Day 6: Monte Capanne hike

From Marciana Marina to Marina di Campo in about 7 and half hours, climbing Monte Capanne (1019 m) the highest peak of the island. This will be the most strenuous day, walking through old stone mines, granite monolith, ancient olive trees and spectacular views of the Tuscan Archipelago. After a last climb to Monte Tambone (377 m) we will start the last descent toward the harbor of Marciana Marina where we will find our boat. Dinner on shore and a good night sleep on the boat.

Day 6: Hike to Pomonte

This is the last leg of the Great Crossing of Elba from Marciana to Pomonte, for 6 and half hours. After a short walk along the road we will follow a well groomed mule track winding through ancient chestnut trees and centuries of history in the area where Napoleon was deported in 1814. We will climb up to Roccia dell’Aquila (650 m) with a fantastic view over the North East Coat and on the Island of Capraia 20 miles away. We will then enter the Pomonte valley and gradually descend walking through vineyards to the small village of Pomonte where we will meet with the boat and have the trekking celebration dinner!

Day 8: Departure

Early breakfast and then the long crossing of 40 miles to Rosignano Solvay where we will separate and we will go back to our homes independently.

The last challenge was to join the world of the mountain with the world of the sea, with my friend skipper Paolo, we founded mountain sailing and we propose climbing and sailing and trekking and sailing. Two totally different worlds with many aspects in common, a new extraordinary adventure.

Man

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Maxine

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

We had Léo as a guide for our day climb in Fonty. We were blessed with a knowledgeable, warm, and instructive guide. Communication with Léo and Ivan was smooth and swift. Explore-Share was excellent in arranging everything for our day climb. The communication was quick, and the platform was easy to use, making our adventure stress-free.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
