The Aosta valley in Italy full of amazing peaks. And one of the finest peaks in the valley is the Grivola mountain (3,969m). This amazing peak is the third highest mountain in the Gran Paradiso mountain range. It also has had several names in the past: Pic de Cogne, Grivolet, Bec de Grivola, and Aiguille de Grivola.
Resting between the Valsavarenche and the Cogne Valley in the Graian Alps, the Grivola mountain is a fantastic climb. And for 2 days, I will lead you to the summit of this great mountain and back down.
The trek will begin from the village of Cretaz (1,450m). From there we will steadily climb through the rocky terrain until we reach the Bivouac Luciano Gratton (3,198m). Because of the altitude of the bivouac you will be able to enjoy stupendous views of the stars at night before you sleep, and of the peaks and landscape in the morning when you wake up. After the bivouac, we will make our way to the Trayo glacier and reach the south corridor (3,450m). Finally we will make our way to the summit, where you can enjoy even more incredible views before we descend back down the same way we ascended.
The climb can be challenging. As a result, you will require some climbing experience, and you must be physically fit.
The Grivola mountain is a quiet, elegant, beautiful peak. And from its summit, anybody lucky enough to make the climb can enjoy stunning, panoramic views of the entire Aosta Valley, as well as all the peaks standing within it. If you wish to join me on this ascent, please send me a request, and let me guide you.
I can also offer more climbing trips in the Aosta valley if you're interested. One great example is this rock climbing adventure on the popular Il Paretone.
- Guiding fee
The bivouac is free of charge and food will also be provided to you.

Born in Aosta in 1970, I am an aspirant mountain guide and a passionate climber. For me, the lightning strike came in while climbing Punta Tzan with some friends: from that day on, my whole life has been the mountains and practicing mountain sports and activities.
Among my most significant ascents are: Mattehorn, Mont Blanc du Tacul, Aiguille Verte, Monviso and Mont Maudit, among others. I will be happy to guide you around my home region!
Stay up-to-date on the best adventures.
