Tucked into the Blue Ridge Mountains of north-central Virginia, Wintergreen is a prime rock climbing spot in the Old Dominion!
Join us for an incredible day of rock climbing in the stunningly scenic mountains here! After a five to 15 minute approach, we will be at the foot of stunning cliff walls.
Ranging from 30 feet (9.1 meters) to 300 feet (91 meters), there is something for climbers of every level. Trad, top rope, sport and multi-pitch climbs are all available, so tell us what you want to do and we can tailor the perfect itinerary for you.
Beginners can get acquainted with the gneiss rock walls on single-pitch sport climb, while more advanced climbers can go on a three-pitch top rope traverse.
Regardless of what you do, the views are stunning especially in spring, when everything is green, and in the middle of autumn, when the leaves begin to change and the countryside is alight with color.
When you’re not climbing, the area is also home to a plethora of other recreation activities. Head out hiking or check out some of the numerous breweries and wineries when you’re not on the rocks.

My name is Grant, and I serve as the head guide for the Blue Ridge Mountain Guides. We are based in Virginia, where I grew up climbing rock and ice, constantly searching for my next big adventure.
While I enjoy all types of climbing, I have to admit that I favor ice and trad. As much as I love climbing, I am equally dedicated to teaching. I have always had a great passion for sharing my love of this sport and the mountains with others. As a teacher, I am laid back, patient and adaptive in my teaching style. I strive to convey information and skills to my students in a way that easy to understand and retain.
I am certified by the American Mountain Guides Association as a Rock Instructor, Single Pitch Instructor and Climbing Wall Instructor. I hold a Wilderness First Responder Certification and am also an AIARE Level I Avalanche Course Instructor and Leave No Trace Trainer.
Blue Ridge Mountain Guides is also an AMGA SPI Assistant Provider.
When it gets too cold to climb back home, you can usually find me ice climbing and skiing in Utah, New York, Vermont and New Hampshire.
Stay up-to-date on the best adventures.
