The Shawangunk Ridge, commonly known as the Gunks, is the easternmost ridge of the Appalachian Mountains in the state of New York, US. It spans from the north of New Jersey all the way to the Catskill Mountains. Sparsely populated, the area is crowded with mountain peaks blanketed in oak forest, with large chunks of the Gunks protected within park reserves.
Close to the region receives a continental climate with warm summers and cold winters.
