My name is Grant, and I serve as the head guide for the Blue Ridge Mountain Guides. We are based in Virginia, where I grew up climbing rock and ice, constantly searching for my next big adventure.

While I enjoy all types of climbing, I have to admit that I favor ice and trad. As much as I love climbing, I am equally dedicated to teaching. I have always had a great passion for sharing my love of this sport and the mountains with others. As a teacher, I am laid back, patient and adaptive in my teaching style. I strive to convey information and skills to my students in a way that easy to understand and retain.

I am certified by the American Mountain Guides Association as a Rock Instructor, Single Pitch Instructor and Climbing Wall Instructor. I hold a Wilderness First Responder Certification and am also an AIARE Level I Avalanche Course Instructor and Leave No Trace Trainer.

Blue Ridge Mountain Guides is also an AMGA SPI Assistant Provider.

When it gets too cold to climb back home, you can usually find me ice climbing and skiing in Utah, New York, Vermont and New Hampshire.

##### It is a treat for any rock climber to scale the Seneca Rocks. Located in West Virginia and part of the famous Appalachian mountain range, this enormous rock formation offers a variety of fantastic walls and routes from which to climb them.

On this **full day, private trip**, you will get to spend hours scaling the **Seneca Rocks** to its summit. The approach from the trailhead to the rocks is very short, only **approximately 10 to 25 minutes**. As a result, the climb begins almost immediately after you arrive.

When it comes to how you climb the **Seneca Rocks**, there are many different ways. Those ways include t_rad climbing, top rope climbing, mixed climbing_ and _multi-pitch climbing_. And because the lengths of the walls ranges **from** **30 to 300 meters**, and **from** **1 to 6 pitches**, like chess moves on the board, there is an abundance of options. Sitting in the northwestern reaches of North Carolina and rising to 2,305 feet in elevation, Stone Mountain makes for an ideal day or rock climbing.

The high-quality granite dome has a prominence of 600 feet and boasts many excellent top rope, mixed, trad and multi-pitch climbing opportunities for participants of just about every level.

After meeting up first thing in the morning, we will head into the state park and make the 15 minute approach through the gorgeous North Carolinian woodland scenery.

Once we’ve arrived, it will be time to gear up and prepare to climb. Most routes up to the top of Stone Mountain generally consist of several 100+ foot pitches up slabs and cracks.

The low-angle nature of the climbing is perfectly suited for novice rock climbers, allowing them to work on balance and foot work.

The views from the top are simply stunning as well, making the effort of getting up and down more than worthwhile.

Finally, the southern aspect of Stone Mountain makes the rocky dome the act like a reflector oven. This means even on cold days, the rock is quite warm and allows Stone Mountain to be an accessible climb all year long.
