Situated in the southwestern corner of Portugal, hiking in the Algarve West Coast is is the perfect way to spend a December holiday!
Boasting rugged coastal cliffs, unique geological formations, rolling hills and beautiful beaches, there is plenty to see in this pristine part of southern Portugal.
Based from the lovely seaside resort town of Lagos, each day we will head to a different part of the region and explore something slightly different.
From walking atop seaside cliffs, feeling the ocean breeze on your face, to visiting a local winery, all five your senses will be fully stimulated throughout the trip.
After spending a rewarding day out walking, each evening will be spent exploring the lovely town of Lagos. Here, you can experience some of the best seafood restaurants in Europe and enjoy the lovely Mediterranean coastline.
Among the numerous highlights of the trip will come on the second day, when we head out on a boat tour of the coastline, getting a slightly different perspective and enjoying immaculate views of the colourful coastal cliffs and water.
Another highlight comes at the end of the trip when we head to Sagres. The lighthouse sits at the southwestern-most point of the continent and boasts stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean.
Each day in between will be equally memorable too, as we explore fishing villages, pastures and tour the picturesque downtown of Lagos.

Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival
After arriving at Faro Airport, we will transfer to the hotel. The evening will be free for you to walk into town and explore.
Day 2: Lagos walk
We will spend the day exploring Lagos. Weather permitting, we will head out on a boat in the afternoon and see the stunning coastline.
Day 3: Ponta da Piedade walk
We will hike along the coast to the gorgeous rock formations at Ponta da Piedade. From here, we will hike on to Porto de Mós and visit the beach before eating lunch at a local restaurant and hiking back to the hotel.
Day 4: Luz to Burgau walk
We will spend the morning hiking along the cliff tops to Luz and Burgau. In each of the small fishing villages, we will have some time to explore.
Day 5: Day off
You will have the day free to do what you like.
Day 6: Alvor walk
After transferring to Alvor, we will walk by the sea, crossing through sand dunes, traditional farmland and ancient salt pans. In the afternoon, we will visit the Quinta dos Vales Wine Estate.
Day 7: Sagres walk
After transferring to the lighthouse of Cape St Vincent, the southwestern most point of Europe, we will hike to two different beaches and eat lunch at a local restaurant.
Day 8: Departure
We will take you to the airport and say our goodbyes.

Thank you explore-share for a wonderful via feratta experience. We have been wanting to learn for a long time but don't have the facilities in Scotland. The guide Mitja was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, answering all my many questions and providing advice. On the day head to take another group but he quickly arranged another guide Borut, who was brilliant. We had a fantastic morning learning via ferrata at Hvadnik in the gorge.
