Description

I invite you to join me on a short and easy hike to the Rifugio Vittorio Emanuele (2735 m), a mountain hut located on the way to the Gran Paradiso peak, in the Aosta Valley. It’s also in the middle of the Gran Paradiso National Park.

The old hut was built in 1884, but in 1961 a new building was built, organized in a low floor and two storeys.

We leave the car in the car park at Breuil, upstream of the Pont de Valsavarenche village. Then we cross the stream and walk south, to the mountains that close the head of the valley. A large dirt road built on the creek has replaced the use of the real road just 10 meters away.

After crossing an impressive larch forest through a very popular and well marked trail, we cross a wooden bridge over a tributary of the Savara stream.

From that point, we have two options. We can continue our hike on a hunting path, with a gentle slope and numerous bends, and in about 2.5 hours get to the Rifugio, a choice recommended for beginners or if it’s your first hike in the mountains.

Or we can either take the first of the many shortcuts that shorten the journey, turning to the left just after the bridge. This way the hike will take us just 1.5 hour.

Right at the foot of the refuge, the Ciarforon (3642 m) and the Becca di Monciair (3544 m) reflect in a small alpine pond by the Vittorio Emanuele Hut.

So if you want to join me on this easy hike just send me a request. I will be happy to guide you to this historical hut!

We did a 1 day Ferrata with Marica. We've both never climbed a Ferrata before but we are both good hikers. We enjoyed our trip very much and you don't need to be a climber. Marica took good care of us and she is very informative with the local geography and history. We felt very safe with her. If you are traveling near the Dolomite and want to try something a bit out of your comfort zone, I highly recommend doing a ferrata especially with Marica. We did both ferrata ra gusela nuvolau and ferrata-averau. It took us about 6 hours.
