Discover the amazing nature and deep lagoons of the Bolivian Andes in this 3-day trip to the summit of the Huayna Potosí together with Bernardo, local IFMGA mountain guide.
Its name “Huayna Potosí” comes from the Quechua language and means “Young Potosí”. The first people who climb this mountain were Dienst and Schulze, two Germans in 1919.
Climbing the Huayna Potosí involves an intermediate technical knowledge. It is an ideal adventure for climbers with some previous experience in the mountains. However, we will follow its normal route which is the easiest way to reach the summit.
Although the ascent will also require some physical effort I can guarantee the reward is priceless. Once at the summit of the Huayna Potosí you will enjoy a magnificent panorama of the famous Titikaka Lake. You will also have the possibility to admire the Cordillera Real and the immense city of La Paz from this high balcony.
At the bottom of this page you’ll find a day-by-day itinerary so you can know in detail the complete program.
And if you’re taking your first steps in mountaineering check out this 5-day adventure in the Condiriri Massif. It’s an ideal mountain climb for beginners!
Please, contact me if you want to summit the beautiful Huayna Potosí. I will be glad to make this adventurous trip become a life changing experience!
Meeting point La Paz |
We will drive from La Paz for 2 hours to the Zongo lagoon (4700 m), our base camp. In the afternoon you’ll have the option to go up to the glacier for a training and return to base camp.
Ascent to the high camp (5135 m) for about 2:30 hours with porters support. Overnight at high camp.
We must start the ascent at 2 AM. Good equipment will be needed. The climb will take us 6-7 hours with some hard sections. The last part before the summit requires the attention, knowledge and balance of each climber. Return to the base camp at 4700 m. Finally, a vehicle will take us back to La Paz.
