Join me on this intro to trad climbing in the Orco Valley or Val di Mello, in Italy. Learn the basic skills to feel comfortable climbing huge granite rocks!
Italy is full of possible destinations to practice all types of rock climbing. Outdoor enthusiasts can find limestone or granite rock with routes for all levels. This +1 day trip will take us to the Orco Valley or Val di Mello, two of the top traditional climbing destinations of the country!
The Orco Valley (in Italian, “Valle dell’Orco”) is located in Turin, Piedmont. It is home to impressive peaks such as Gran Paradiso (4,061 m) and Ciarforon (3,642 m). The area is famous for its granite climbing spots, allegedly the best in the Western Alps. Sergent, Caporal and Torre di Aimonin are some of its epic walls.
At 130 km from Milan, Val di Mello is a large natural reserve on the border with Switzerland. Known as the ‘Little Yosemite’, this beautiful alpine spot is a historical granite climbing area. Most of its trad crags are on south facing walls and are easy to approach.
On this rock climbing trip we will choose the routes together, based on your level and your expectations. You will learn the basic skills and fall in love with this amazing outdoor activity!

I am Reccardo Olliveri, class 1975, registered to the Alpine Guide College of Piemonte since 2002 and graduated in environment and territory engineering at the Turin technical college. I live at Turin, but I am resident in the Alps where I practice the mountaineering activity all through the year; I love the void and I play every time I can; on rock, ice, dry tooling and also skiing.
Its with great passion that I continue practicing the mountaineering activity and I dedicate myself to pass on to all those interested to know, the spirit and the ability to dedicate oneself close to the mountain in all its forms.
Stay up-to-date on the best adventures.
