Description

This Monte Rosa climbing program is ideal to tackle several 4000-meter peaks and train your mountain climbing skills.

We will be in a glacial environment in the stunning Monte Rosa massif. The program is progressive, each day will prepare us for the next.

First, we reach the Mantova refuge easily with the help of the cable car. The hut will be our base at the heart of Monte Rosa. During these 3 days of mountaineering, we will cover the basics of crampon use as well as high mountain safety techniques. Then we will attack the emblematic 4000s of Monte Rosa.

This program is adequate for eager beginners. Although it doesn't involve great difficulty, you are advised to have some experience walking with crampons and hiking in the mountains carrying your backpack with some gear in it.

In order to join this trip it's important to be in good shape and fit, but it's ok if you are beginners about technical skills. It's a long walk so if you are sporty and with hike experience you can do it. Expect to be on the go for 6 to 8 hours per day with approx 900 to 1300 m ascent/descent.

Itinerary

Day 1: Mantova mountain hut

We will meet in Gressoney-Staffal.

From there we set off to the Mantova mountain hut where we leave our bags. A glacier workshop near the mountain hut enables us to go over basic mountaineering techniques.

Ascent: + 300 m

Day 2: Punta Gniffetti ascent

Today’s aim is the Punta Gniffetti (4554 m). This climb is not to be missed out on and offers spectacular views of the Monte Rosa summits.

Ascent/descent: + 1100 m / – 1100 m

Day 3: Vincent Pyramide ascent

Last day in the Monte Rosa area, we climb up the glacier to the beautiful Vincent Pyramide (4215 m), a nice and easy route to progressively get into the mountaineering universe. This climb is not to be missed out on and offers spectacular views of the Monte Rosa summits.

We head back to the mountain hut to grab our stuff and make our way down to Gressoney.

The itinerary described is orientative. It's also an option to do Vincent on day 2, which is easier, and then Gniffetti, a longer and harder as final day. The guide will decide looking at weather what to do first.

Mountain Guide

Since I was a boy I always had a desire to climb, following paved and unpaved roads to reach a peak. My bike took me around the world, exploring remote corners of the Earth. There is a special combination of solitude and beauty that lies in a desert road laid out under two wheels. I started my career as a cyclist, but also in my heart were the mountains and a good dose of self-challenge, with activities like triathlons and ultra distance mountain running.

After a Masters degree in Forestry Science and few assignements around Europe as Lab Manager, I realised that my love for the mountains, outdoors, and the desire to share this world with other people was too strong to be restricted only to the weekends.

Becoming a Mountain Guide was my answer! Living by the outdoors and sharing my passion for adventure. In life we are all faced with tough choices. The decision to train as a guide, to share my knowledge about mountains and help people safely achieve their dreams is reinforced each day with the experience I share with my clients.

We are each unique, in our dreams, experience and ambitions. Every season brings a new opportunity for adventure! Ski touring, freeride skiing or iceclimbing in winter; then, as the snow melts we go to the mountains for mountaineering, rock climbing, hiking and trail running.

Super ski touring trip around aosta with 2 x 4000m in 2 days (Gran Paradiso + Monte Rosa). Fede is a really nice guy and guided us wonderfully. He is also very aware of avalanche risks so we had to modify our plans to go to Monte Rosa instead of Valgrisenche because it was too hot and too exposed. Fede was not only a professional in his job he was also a nice guy, very friendly and communicative with genuine interest to help and assist. More than satisfied by him. He made us feel safe. In what regards Explore-share, it is a very nice and clever project but with some defects. I believe that the option of direct communication with a representative whould make things easier and faster. Also the application itself is sometimes unstable and complicated. E.g. the first time you asked for review I was transferred to a link were I got a white screen with no option to input comments. Best Regards
