There are few regions in the world with as many beautiful peaks as the Central Oregon Cascades. Out of those peaks, three manage to stand out: The Three Sisters. And, when it comes to combining climbing and skiing, the Middle Sister (3,062m) and South Sister (3,157m) are the best option. So if you are looking for the ideal combination of skiing and mountaineering, this 3-day trip is perfect.
The South Sister and Middle Sister are two volcanic peaks lying in the Three Sisters volcano complex in Oregon. These two peaks provide not just thrilling descents but invigorating ascents.
The Middle Sister is the shortest of the Three Sisters. As such, it offers an amazing opportunity for intermediate climbers. The scenic views that surround this peak are breathtaking.
The South Sister is the tallest of the three peaks, and offers a moderately difficult, but relatively straight forward ascent. From the summit of this peak you can enjoy the view of the North and Middle Sister as well as the Three Fingered Jack peak (2,391m). During a clear day the view at the summit of the South Sister extends all the way to Mount Hood (3,429m), Mount Bachelor (2,764m) and the Broken Top mountain (2,797m).
To join me on this 3 day trip, you don’t need prior mountaineering experience, but you need to have previous backcountry experience skiing with a pack. Actually, this trip is the perfect choice if you have more skiing than climbing experience.
During our 3-day adventure, we will occasionally use ropes, crampons and ice axes, but the main activity will be skiing. The Middle and South Sister are not considered technical ascents.
So you are looking for a great ski mountaineering adventure, this trip is for you. Send me a request and I will make sure you safely enjoy this unforgettable experience.
