This itinerary is designed for motivated mountaineers who want to build their skills while tackling two of the Alps’ most famous massifs. The first half of the course is dedicated to acclimatisation and technical training on Monte Rosa, reaching two of the accessible 4000m peaks: Punta Giordani (4046m) and Vincent Pyramid (4215m).
The second part focuses on the ascent of Mont Blanc via the classic Goûter Route. By gradually increasing altitude and experience, you will maximise your chances of success on Mont Blanc.
Meeting point
Appointment in Staffal, Gressoney and take the Monte Rosa lift. After a short break, the focus will be on crampon and ice axe techniques essential for reaching the first 4k, Punta Giordani. Night in the Mantova (3498m) or Gnifetti hut (3647m).
From Mantova or Gnifetti hut we will climb the Vincent Pyramid from the normal route. Descend to the hut where you will rest while acclimatizing. Dinner and night in the refuge.
Training day. Crampon and glacier practice on the Lys glacier, or scrambling on the first part of Vincent Pyramid’s south west ridge. Descent to Punta Indren lift where we will reach Staffal Gressoney. Drive to Chamonix. Accomodation in a hotel (provided by yourself).
From Chamonix, hike to the Tête Rousse hut. Arrive in the afternoon, enjoy dinner at the hut, and prepare for an early start.
Summit day! The climb usually takes 6–7 hours. The route involves scrambling to the Aiguille du Goûter, snow slopes, and a final exposed ridge to the top of Mont Blanc (4810m). Descend to the Goûter hut for the night.
Descend from the Goûter hut to the valley and return to Chamonix by mid to late afternoon. Group debrief and celebration.
Do I need previous mountaineering experience for this trip?
Yes. This experience is designed for climbers with prior alpine or mountaineering experience.
You must be comfortable using crampons, an ice axe, and moving on roped terrain. You must
have climbed a 4k summit prior to this experience.
How fit do I need to be to climb the Gouter route?
You need to be in excellent physical condition. The summit day involves 1,800+ meters of ascent
and 10–14 hours of high-altitude climbing. Endurance, strength, and mental resilience are
essential. Prior experience at altitude is also highly recommended.
What is the best training before taking part in this trip?
Preparation should include regular cardio and endurance sports such as running, hiking, cycling,
or swimming. Include uphill training where possible, carrying a heavy backpack. Aim for 4–5
sessions per week in the months leading up to the trip.
What is the guide-to-client ratio?
The maximum is 2 clients per guide (1:2) and 4 per guide for the preparatory trip, allowing for
excellent attention, flexibility, and a safer climbing experience.
What happens if the weather is bad?
If weather or mountain conditions prevent a safe summit attempt, your guide will propose an
alternative climb or training day. Please note that no refunds or rescheduling are possible due to
weather — this is standard for all high-altitude climbs.
When is the best time to climb Mont Blanc?
The climbing season runs from early June to early September. June and July offer best
conditions, but hut availability is limited — we strongly advise booking at least 6–9 months in
advance to secure your spot.
Is insurance required?
It is important to have mountain rescue and cancellation insurance that covers high-altitude
climbing in the Alps. Check that your policy includes mountaineering up to 5,000 meters.
