Full of wonderful climbing experiences, the Cascades in Washington are also a wonderful place to learn about rock climbing as well. And on this 2 day course, we will focus on learning and practicing how to climb on traditional routes (or trad routes for short) that follow cracks.
Beginning in a park and ride in Seattle, we will carpool to the climbing area. Once there, we will begin the course that will help you learn the necessary skills for safe and fun traditional route rock climbing. The course starts with an introduction to the equipment used for trad routes. That equipment includes ropes, protection, anchor materials and climbing shoes. You will learn how to properly use the rope and care for your equipment before we venture to the crag. We will then finish off the day with movement instruction, while climbing different cracks in the area. Afterwards, you can camp with the instructors if you wish.
On the second day of the course, the focus will be on practicing climbing movement while placing protection. Throughout the day, you will have plenty of opportunity to top-rope several traditional routes. As a result of this practice, I am confident you will become confident when it comes to trad routes. At the end of the day, we will review what you have learned, as well as provide you with future climbing possibilities.
Participants on this trip should be in good physical condition and have prior rock climbing experience.
