The Kumano Kodo is a UNESCO world heritage pilgrimage route that leads to the awe-inspiring Kumano Hongu Shrine. This ancient Shinto shrine is located in the rugged mountains of the Kii Peninsula of Japan. Pilgrims have walked to this shrine for over 1,000 years.  On this trekking tour in Japan, we will get the chance to go down this route and explore the country’s natural beauty as well as some of its most sacred sites.

The entire trip will take place in rural Japan. Therefore, we will enjoy staying in very traditional and simple Ryokan inns where we will have the chance to try delicious local cuisine. Additionally, many of these inns also have in-house onsen hot springs, perfect for recovering after a long day outdoors. Our tour will combine both hiking and sightseeing. Please keep in mind that one of our tour days will be spent entirely hiking, therefore, you will need a good fitness level.

**What about trekking Japanese ancient sacred mountain pilgrimage route?**

A thick bunch of trees or undeveloped sacred land is the original meaning of Kumano. When we walk this quiet and sacred trekking route, we can still feel **the ancient mountain worship spirit**. You will have a great experience walking on Kumano Kodo.

This 1 Day tour mainly focus on the core zone of **Omine Okugake** route, which is from **Kongo-no-tawa** to **Kumano Hongu**. You will be amazed to walk on the same route that **Shugendo monks** use for their training.

I am a JMGA guide and also Shugendo monk. I will take you to the ancestral natural forests of Kumano. Let’s enjoy a beautiful historical atmosphere trekking!

If you would like to have other routes like Kogumo-torigoe or Kohechi (over Hatenashi-touge), those are available as options. This tour is for small groups under **5 people,** so it is good for relaxed moderate pace of trekking.

We will meet at B&B Cafe Hongu at 9:30 a.m. From there, we will go forward to the Kami-kiribara trail-head and start our tour. Our tour probably ends around 4:00 p.m., but it will depend on the course and our walking speed. The guide will tell detailed information about the meeting point to the participants after the tour reservation.

**Do you want to enjoy trekking on one of a World Heritage Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes?**

This is a great opportunity for **trekking** of **Kumano Kodo**. Kumano Kodo is the ancient Japanese **Shinto pilgrimage** route. I am a JMGA guide and also Shugendo monk. I will take you to **Kumano Nachi Taisha** that is **Shinto Shrine**.

Please enjoy trekking in quiet forests that still have the sacred atmosphere of ancient Japan. This **2 days tour** is for those who love to have an unforgettable experience and learn about Kumano culture and nature.

The route will be **from Hongu to Nachi Taisha**, getting through Kogumo-torigoe to Oogumo-torigoe. We will stay overnight at Guest House in Koguchi village or Shizen-no-ie (it means Nature House, inn uses old school building).

We will meet at **B&B Café Hongu at 9:30 a.m**. And we will go to the trailhead and start our tour. After having lunch, we will come to Koguchi around 3:00 p.m. Then, we will stay at Guest house or Inn (Shizen-no-ie).

We will start today’s walk at 8:00 a.m. Around 12:00, we will take lunch. Then, we will arrive at Kumano Nachi Taisha, which is a Shinto shrine and part of the UNESCO-designated World Heritage Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range of Japan. Our tour will end at 4:00 p.m.

**Join me for this classic program in Japan. The Kumano Kodo trek consists of ancient pilgrimage trails, considered a UNESCO World Heritage site. For this program, I have designed a 3-day tour. From the coast, to the country, and high mountains, you are in for a beautiful scenic treat!**

During the first two days of this tour, we will focus on river trekking off the trail. We will also spend the night in the wilderness, with tents and bonfires. This is always a beautiful way to connect with nature!

On Day 3, we will go one of the **World Heritage Sacred Sites** and ancient Japanese pilgrimage route, **Kumano Kodo**. Most of these sites were established during 10th and 11th centuries. In 2004, they were protected by UNESCO.

Towards the end of our tour, we will encounter the beautiful and traditional shrines **Nachi Taisha** and **Shinto Shrine**, and the iconic **Nachi waterfall**.

For this program, I will take groups of **2 hikers**.
