**The ski area around Val d'Isère and Tignes – Espace Killy – bids immense possibilities for off-piste skiing at all levels, from your first steps outside the groomed slopes to steep and deep couloirs for the more adventurous experts.**

All around Val d'Isère, the **Vanoise National Parc** has preserved vast patches of wilderness, giving the area its unique character. These magnificent and preserved valleys are nevertheless easily accessible from the lifts, and from Val d’Isère one can also ski to the neighbouring areas of **la Plagne**, **Les Arcs** or the **Maurienne** valley for day trips.

So from our base in Val d'Isère or from where you are staying, I can share with you the pleasure of skiing the local off-piste classics :

Freeride skiing guide in Val d’Isère and Tignes

**Val d’Isère, thanks to its closeness to Italy, offers many amazing heliskiing possibilities**: you can either enjoy pick ups from neighbouring valleys or drops on the Italian side. These heliskiing days will stay in your memory because of the quantity and quality of the skiing, as well as for the beauty of the mountains seen from above, and the excitement of flying.

Please find below some of the beautiful itineraries we can choose from, based in **Val d'Isère or in other ski resorts of Tarentaise and Maurienn**e.

**Bonneval sur Arc**

Starting from Pissaillas in Val d’Isere, and after approximately 40 minutes of skinning, we reach the Ouille Noire Pass and descend onto the neighbouring valley of the Montets, where we will enjoy long descents of powder or spring snow, all the way down to the small town of Bonneval sur Arc. This is the resort of the Maurienne, located at the foot of the Albarron (3640m), amidst a landscape of great glaciers scarred by gigantic seracs.

The spectacular helicopter flight back to Val d’Isere, 1000m above the Vanoise National Parc, finishes off this splendid day of skiing.

**Ruitor / Miravidi**

Starting from La Rosiere, we ski towards the Petit Saint Bernard Pass where the Italian helicopter await us. According to the snow and weather conditions, there are many itineraries to choose from: Mt Ouille, Mt Miravidi, Mt Freduaz, Mt Ruitor and more!  It is possible to opt for one, two or even three consecutive drops, the last one on the French-Italian border to ski back to France.

**Valgrisenche Valley**

The valley of Valgrisenche, on the Italian side of the mountain, is only a few kilometers away from Val d’Isere by helicopter, but it takes hours to reach it by road. This preserved valley is one of the heliski hotspots of the Alps, where you can do several consecutive drops over one or two days, sleeping in one of the atmospheric local inns.

**Beyond the many available off-piste descents, the area around Val d’Isère is rich in magnificent back country skiing itineraries only open to the skiers equipped with skins and ski touring gear.** 

A little effort and a short walk of under an hour already leaves the vast majority of skiers behind, and opens the way to wide virgin slopes for unforgettable mornings of skiing pleasure. Ski touring does not require extraordinary skiing ability nor physical fitness; after some technical coaching on the use of the equipment, the average skier can already enjoy superb touring.

I would be delighted to initiate you to the delights of ski touring, and share the joys of the mountains far from the ski lifts. Bigger children and teenagers welcome !

For the more experienced, we can choose longer day tours, as well as **hut-to-hut tours sleeping in refuges**. There are many refuges around Val d’Isère  (Prariond, Carro, Sevettes, Averole..) from which we can also ski to the Italian valleys of the Val d’Aoste.

I will provide you with all the necessary safety material (airbag, shovel, probe, DVA beeper, harness when on glaciers) and advise you on the suitable ski gear if necessary.

I will take maximum 6 skiers with me in order to maximize the safety of the group. If you would come with more than 6 people, another guide will join us.

Guided ski touring around Val d’Isère

Join me for an **8-day ski touring trip** in the incredible **Lofoten** Islands, in the North of Norway. This archipelago, inhabited since 800 AD, offers a **landscape of steep mountains with sharp peaks rising from the North Sea, split by deep fjords, and scattered with picturesque and colourful fishermen villages**.

Although located north of the Arctic Circle, the warm waters of the Gulf Stream provide pleasant temperatures, similar to the Alps. Each day we will explore a different fjord and enjoy amazing descents on the wild slopes of the **Lofoten**.

Each islet of the archipelago offers myriads of different runs, from wide slopes to rocky couloirs, through forests, finishing on beaches. Starting from sea level, the ascents range between **600 to 1200 m vertical drop.**

This trip is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy the warm welcome of the inhabitants of these beautiful islands. We will cross between the islands by boat while we admire the stunning landscapes of amazing peaks falling into the sea. Not to mention the lively bars of the village of **Svolvær**!

**The program**

We can meet in **Oslo** on Saturday night for dinner and overnight at the hotel. Or we can either meet on Sunday morning directly at Oslo Airport, for the flight that will take us to **Svolvær**.

We will spend 3 nights on **Austvågøy, one of the biggest islands of the archipelago.** The next 4 nights, we will stay in a comfortable lodge on an **islet of the Vestfjord**. On Monday morning, we return to Svolvær to take the flight back to Oslo.

It will be great 8 days of skiing, from Sunday morning to Sunday evening. We will enjoy a fantastic ski touring week along the protected fjords of the southeast coast.

At the beginning of the week, we will go on a Star Trek on the main summits of **Austvågøy**. Each morning, the Zodiac will take us to different fjords, with an elevation of **500 to 1000 m**, that reduces the effort of the climb.

However, not everybody wants to stick to the normal routes. Some people want to tour beyond those routes. They want to ski in places where there are no tracks, no traces of past skiers. And that’s what makes this trip so special. Because this is a trip focused on **ski touring** for as far as you wish, and **off-piste skiing** that allows to ski off the beaten path.

There is so much to see in the **Tarentaise Valley**. And with the freedom this trip offers, from **morning only**, to **half-day**, to **full-day** options, you will get to see as much of it as you have the energy to explore. Besides **Val d’Isere**, you can also venture into **Tignes**, **Les Arcs**, **La Plagne**, **La Rosiere**, even **Chamonix** and **La Grave**. You can even cross into **Switzerland** and **Italy**, with the gorgeous snowy peaks of the **Alps** looming above, watching, greeting you quietly. While you take in the silence and peace.
