This 1-day hike to El Morado hanging glacier is your best chance to admire the greatness of an Andean glacier close to Santiago de Chile.

El Morado is a Natural Monument set in Cajón del Maipo, very close to Chile’s capital city. The landscape is dominated by the beautiful Cerro El Morado and it has a glacier that is part of the El Volcán river basin.

This program will take us through an easy, but long, path to El Morado Lagoon, from where we’ll have a privileged view of the amazing hanging glacier (Glaciar Colgante). Also during the hike we’ll be surrounded by the breathtaking  landscape of the central Cordillera de los Andes.

The whole walk will last around 6 hours to hike up and down. There will be spare time to take pictures and have lunch in the lagoon.

So please send me a request if you want to try this 1-day hike to El Morado hanging glacier and I’ll make the arrangements to have a nice day out in the nature.

And if you want to try a different hike in this area, please check my 1-day Del Manzano Caves trek and my 1-day Bosque de los Brujos hike.

    About the Guide

    UIAGM/IFMGA Mountain Guide from Chile

Mountain guide and instructor from the Chilean Andinism Federation (FEACH) and certified Wilderness First Responder.

I’ve opened several climbing routes in Chile, and was one of the first and very few Chileans to summit Cerro Torre, Fitz Roy, Paine Grande and Torres del Paine.

I climbed almost all the technical mountain in Cajón del Maipo, in Central Chile, and did some of the most important routes in Yosemite, Indian Creek and Patagonia.

And regarding ski mountaineering, I skied down Mount Illimani and Huayna Potosí in Bolivia, and Cerro Castillo, Morado Norte and Sur in Chile.
