Description

Follow me to some of the most beautiful valleys of the Tatras as we trek our way through delightful Slovakia scenery! Enjoy walking, scrambling, and unbelievable views on this day-long adventure through the countryside.

The central High Tatras Mountains, located on the border of Slovakia and Poland, are full of remote meadows and lakes. The vast quantity of wildflowers will leave you in awe of the natural landscape, and you will find something new to behold at each level of the climb.

You may see marmots, mountain goats, and deer while hiking. The plants and forests change with the altitude, so you will experience new aspects of the wildlife during your trek.

Our program will visit three of the most picturesque valleys in the region – the Velicka, Kacacia, and Velka Studena Dolina. The Velka Studena Dolina has the most mountain turns in the High Tatras, so every fork in the road will offer a fresh perspective.

Our program begins in the morning at Hrebienok (1,280m). From here, we walk up to our first valley, Velicka, home to an abundance of wildflowers.

Towards the end of the valley, we will scramble up to the Polsky Hreben Saddle (2,200m).Descending into our second valley, you will have plenty of opportunities for incredible photographs.

You will continue sightseeing through Kacacia Dolina and then scramble to Saddle Prielom (2,288m). Our walk into the third valley, Velka Studena, is a winding footpath that epitomizes the captivating landscape of the region.

We can choose to have lunch and drinks at the Zbojnicka Chalet (1,980m) if you like, before a 2-hour return to Hrebienok and finishing our hike.

This is approximately a 10-hour hike, with some scrambling, so good fitness is a must. Experience hiking, particularly scrambling, is valuable.

Book now and hike a day in the High Tatras through the valleys and mountain passes that make Slovakia so unforgettable!

If you want a more technical program, try an advanced day-hike of Rysy! Or try trekking through the Forkotska and Mlynicka Valleys!

About the guide

I'm a UIMLA mountain leader and national tourist guide (for cultural and historical heritage trips).

I was born in Poprad in 1969. From my early childhood, I often looked out my bedroom window into the distance of the picturesque High Tatras, which fascinated me even then. In high school I started going with my friends to a small climbing "expedition" on the surrounding rocks, and later to the High Tatras. Mostly I went with a friend whose father was a member of the Mountain Rescue Service. During my studies at Comenius University in Bratislava, I loved coming back to the mountains.
In 1999 I started actively volunteering paramedic of the Tatra Mountain Rescue Service, and then I was hired there.
Precisely because of my relationship with the mountains I began working as a tourist guide with a focus on mountain areas.
Since 1998 I accompany tourists from around the world to the mountains and surrounding towns.
In 2011 I got certified as mountain leader.
Besides, I have been working as a member of the Council of the Slovak Association of mountain Leaders since it was established in 2011.

Marcel wasn't able to complete this trip with us, but he provided another certified guide named Veronika who provided an excellent trip! The area was beautiful and the Via Ferrata was a lot of fun. We recommend being prepared for a long (but beautiful) hike before reaching the Via Ferrata and having your own snacks. Luckily Veronika had some delicious food to share with us :)

Hello! I have been thoroughly impressed by the service and assistance that explore-share have provided the past couple years in helping to plan my trip to the High Tatras in Poland. I really appreciated the flexibility that they provided in allowing me to rearrange my trip twice owing to covid. They were responsive and communicative throughout. This trip was part of my Stag weekend celebrations and explore-share connected me with an outstanding guide in the form of Marcel - he was an excellent recommendation and we really enjoyed our guided hike in the High Tatras with him. Marcel was an outstanding professional, placed a high focus on preparing well and staying safe, and was also a great guy! Highly recommend. Many thanks and best wishes - Richard

If you find yourself in Slovakia do not miss an opportunity for a hike with Marcel in Paradise National Park. He is an amazing guide, and my hike with him was a definite highlight of my almost two week vacation in three countries. He is very experienced and knowledgeable, watched over me, and kept us moving at a comfortable pace with opportunities for breaks in between. He also speaks excellent English, and always responded promptly and was in touch frequently before the trip which gave me peace of mind. He also took wonderful pictures of me and surroundings during the hike which are such fun memories to have to look back on. Again, DO NOT MISS an opportunity for a hike in Slovakia with Marcel!!

Super guide, excellent knowledge of area, history and nature. Great with the kids. Gives a lot of confidence with to the point technical explanations on kids (8 and 10yo) level. Can make himself understandable to kids although they do not speak English. Would not hesitate to go again on a trip with him.

Marcel was an excellent guide for our trip. Not only did he speak fluent English (few people do in Slovakia), guided and helped us, but also was a dedicated photographer of the adventure. Highest recommendations.

Marcel is a great guide. We had a great day with him - both for the places but especially for his company. You can definitely see he loves his job, the places and showing them to people. Aside from being an expert of his own field, he has also been a great travel companion and he had many historical/anecdotical stories to share. Definitely recommended!

The hike was much more difficult than I was prepared for but it was worth every view! Marcel is a very experienced guide and very patient, and has a lot of knowledge about the Tatras mountains and surrounding regions. I would recommend Marcel to anyone who is looking for a guided trek or tour in the Tatras / Carpathian ranges, either in Poland or Slovakia :) P.S. Hiking poles are good to have while descending from Rysy peak. Thank you very much!

Very good trip, a mountain range offering a lot of opportunities, big diversity in small distance. Marcel, the guide of this trip was really a good promoter of his region : the high Tatras, very professional with high human values. In one word : great.

Given its lofty name, Paradise National Park could have been setting itself up to be underwhelming, but it didn't disappoint! It truly is a paradise if you, like me, can't get enough of primeval woodland, stunning waterfalls and a bit of adventure along the way! Marcel was the perfect guide, and his years in the business of guiding and also mountain rescue really shone through. As well as answering all my questions about the park from a nature point of view, he also gave me a fascinating overview of Slovakia's cultural/political history. This was my first-ever attempt at via ferrata and he gave me a great crash course on the equipment and safety procedures so I felt fully prepared. I am now a fully committed fan and will definitely be signing up to more via ferrata trips! Thanks for a fantastic day, Marcel.

Marcel is a great guide. He showed us the beauty of slovak paradise, told great stories about the Slovakian history and nature, made fun, and supported us well during the via ferrata trail. We would highly recommend this trip with Marcel as a guide.
